Skip to comments. With so much money raised why is Mr. Romney not fighting back?
Posted on 08/10/2012 7:13:09 AM PDT by indianyogi
Suddenly, I am geting this sinking feeling that Mr. Romney is going to fail just like Mr. McCain in his mission. The reason is both men do not fight back. They do not fight back dirty. What is their problem? What good is all that money for?
He can’t tap that money until he is formally nominated.
It is beginning to look like Mr. Romney has the best knife in the gun fight.
The Olympics are on.
The VP hasn’t even been named.
There are limitations on how much he can spend prior to becoming the official nominee. After the convention, look for a huge media surge.
I was under the impression that Romney couldn’t spend his money until he’s officially named the candidate, that money raised for the election can’t be spent while he’s still only the presumptuous candidate.
Of course, I don’t normally do impressions...!
Has to be officially nominated. Dont worry the truth about barry will be out there no matter how much the lamestream media tries to hide it
He is prohibited under campaign law from spending the money he has raised since the primary until after the Convention at the end of this month.
PA could be in play, but that window will close quickly if Mitt can't/doesn't defend himself.
Romney fought plenty dirty during the primary, which is one of the reasons many conservatives don’t like him very much. He has shown that he has a sharp group of campaign advisers who respond quickly to attacks. And he has invested a large fortune of his own money getting this far. He is out raising large sums of money, and my guess is that he’s counting on the fact that most people are not paying a lick of attention to the presidential race right now.
Romney and the super PACs are going to roll into the conventions with large sums of money in the bank, with an Obama team that has shot every arrow in their quiver and most of their money. I think he’s keeping the powder dry until the conventions, and then it’s going to be Romney ads all day and night until November.
Besides the money issue, historically people don’t start paying attention until after Labor Day.
...for the same reason that the Marines didn’t invade Iwo Jima on December 8, 1941.
Because Mitt Dole, uh McCain, uh Romney is a putz.
I’d also like to see Romney hit back harder, but he is hitting back. I’m actually pleasantly surprised at some of the campaign commercials I’ve seen lately. In comparison, some of Obama’s have been downright creepy.
But as has been mentioned above, most people aren’t really paying attention yet and he’d be wise to hold off until closer to the election when more are engaged and the money will be more wisely spent.
It’s still summer. People are still vacationing, spending time with their kids and enjoying the weather. Once fall comes around, the weather starts to turn, and more people are inside watching TV (plus football season will be in full swing - when a lot of people are watching), hopefully we’ll see the Romney campaign in high gear.
You should read and learn from your own tagline.
As an aside, if Romney can not spend his money until after he is nominated, how can the non-nominated Obama spend his?
It’s time for some punching power! Mittens is way too soft. I’m not a huge fan of Krispy Christie, but I do like his attitude!
Because he is winning. watch the two campaigns and especially the desperation from Obama. That tells you where things are.
Personally, I think Obama’s (and his peoople’s) incompetence is on display here. Romney is clearly in his element and, like a good comedian, understands that timing is to politics (and comedy) what location is to real estate.
Those that think Mitt isn’t a fighter to me weren’t paying attention during the Primaries.. He was down right nasty during the primaries and I have no doubt he’ll fight as down and dirty as needed.
However as others have correctly pointed out, much of Mitt’s money cannot be spent until AFTER he is nominated, and right now its the tail end of summer vacation and the olympics are on. Huge media buys right now aren’t pretty much torching money.
I don't believe it's the amount of advertising that is questioned as much as the content. How much does it cost to take punches at JugEars during fund-raising speeches and interviews???
Romney hasn't landed a single punch and any damage to Obama has been self inflicted and it should be obvious, even to a straight laced Mormon that you don't win a boxing match by hoping your opponent knocks himself out but that is the pattern that's developing.
Realistically, I don't think PA is ever really in play, even though every election people say it is. But the fact that you are seeing so many Obama ads shows that Obama is spending a lot of money in a state that should easily be his. Frankly, I think PA is not worth much of Romney's time.
He can’t spend it until after the convention when he is the official candidate.
1. He cannot spend most of that money until after he is nominated and 2. he is keeping his powder dry while Obama shoots himself in the foot constantly.
Right now Obama and his minions are running scared and are throwing as much mud as possible — they are spending almost twice a month what they are bringing in already, meanwhile Romney is accumulating an enormous war chest.
When people actually start paying attention in late September Obama will have shot his wad and basically be broke and out of ammunition — at that point you will see Romney and the Rep pacs put on an all out blitz.
Romney is McCain is Romney is McCain.
I find much to dislike about Christie, but then I find much to dislike about all politicians, save one.
“I don’t believe it’s the amount of advertising that is questioned as much as the content. How much does it cost to take punches at JugEars during fund-raising speeches and interviews???”
Agreed. Why doesn’t he go straight at Obama’s weaknesses:
Call him, “the most incompetent president in our lifetime,” and point people to the book “The Amateur” which paints a devastating portrait of Obama. The make fun at him for all his screw-ups.
Accuse him of being a radical leftist who hates traditional America, Christianity, and capitalism.
Most importantly, laugh at Obama and his lies. Treat him with scorn and derision.
Obama vs. Obama light. What? Me Worry? says Alfred E. Neuman. RINO’s lose every time. It’s Bob Dole’s turn! Hooray! It’s John McLame’s turn! Hooray! Now it’s Mittens Romney’s turn! Hooray! Someone wake me up when the gulags open up!
Another summer of ‘08 sign on activated to run up Romney’s negatives at a conservative website. There will be many more activated by October ...
When these are activated, notice the follow-up posters from ‘08 who will try to reinforce the negative message.
How come he's allowed to run ads while Romney isn't?
“Suddenly, I am geting this sinking feeling that Mr. Romney is going to fail just like Mr. McCain in his mission. The reason is both men do not fight back. They do not fight back dirty. What is their problem?”
To them, there is no “problem”. It’s how they’ve been taught to behave.
They are “gentlemen” of cultivation and refinement. And refined “gentlemen” do not stoop to the gutter to fight. To do so, is “below” themselves.
This is why they can be rolled by “the Chicago crowd”, as McCain was, and as Romney may well be...
This is expected behavior from almost anyone the Republican “establishment” will nominate...
It's probably the only fiscally sound decision Obama has ever made. Then again, he didn't earn even that--it was all donated.
Tons and tons of pro Romney ads are being broadcast nationwide and in the swing states during the Olympics.
If you havent seen them, then you ain’t watching.

Romney is an unprincipled progressive masquerading as a conservative, the Mayor Bloomberg of the national GOP. Why conservatives should be required see a candidate that shares 90% of Obama’s views to be some 180-degree improvement from Obama is laughable.
Obama with a GOP-controlled Congress that will challenge him at every turn is better, in the long run, for America than an equally unrestrained Mitt “just a little less Obama than Obama” Romney.
Strategically, America is better off holding Obama in check for the next 4 years, gaining more congressional seats, and hoping the GOP rank and file learn to nominate a Republican with some semblance of conservative principles. Romney would be a 4 year disgrace that ruins the GOP “brand” for decades.
Oh, wow! You can post pictures. I am so impressed.
Romney is ruthless and he is an iceman-two qualities that might not be too admirable under normal circumstances, but two that are quite admirable for someone running for President (which Romney has been doing for at least a decade).
Early in the GOP primary, Romney kept smiling and presenting his agenda. He treated the other candidates as nothing more than buzzing flies. But when it came time to wrap it up, out came the Howitzer sized fly swatter and splat was all that was left.
Romney is staying on his game plan and treating Obama like that annoying fly. Obama would like nothing more than for Romney to lose his cool or slip out. When the time is right, the Howitzer fly swatter will be used and used mercilessly. I’ve no doubt of that. But the time is not right yet - he’d just be flailing at the air now.
Obama and his surrogates have been trying for months to get a reaction from Romney and they haven’t gotten one. That’s why the attacks on Romney have become more and more outrageous.
Calling Romney a felon and a murderer is pretty much the political equivalent of the kitchen sink. And Romney hasn’t taken the bait. Where else do you go after that? Wife-beater? adulterer? child molester? porn addict? Now that will be laughable - I hope they try it.
They’re holding off on attacking his religion - that will be the nuclear option-but I’ve no doubt it will be used, if necessary. Utah’s not the issue, but AZ, NV, and CO (to a lesser degree) would not take kindly to an assault on Mormonism and NV and CO are not slam dunks for Zero-far from it.
Romney is a heavily Mormonized male. He will be, if elected, the first Mormon President of the US, and as such he will be acutely aware of building a legacy. Do you really believe that if conservative legislation is sent to his desk he will veto it, given his innate need to build a favorable legacy as the first LDS inc President? Peddle your disinformation, suppress the conservative turnout crfap to someone else. Your approach is DNC/Axelgresy technique on the face of it.
We have two left of center candidates presented by the two major parties. One of those two will be the next prresident sworn in. I am absolutely convinced that Romney is more susceptible to being pushed toward the center and perhaps even just right of center on some issues than the proven racist America hating thug-in-chief.
If you can't see that, well, then you want risk the Republic to fail, just to teach the GOP-stinky-e a lesson ... and that makes you an enemy of the Republic, to some degree we will not discuss at FR. It is a well understood tactic of disinformation to deny the obvious outcome from a certain behavior. I doubt that you cannot see the realistic result from allowing little barry bastard commie fiat ruler four more years, with a Democrat controlled Senate and a weakened House. Lie to someone else, roid.
Glad you liked the pic. Print it out and frame it... he’s your big gov’t, big tax, pro-abortion, pro-LGBT guy.

I agree completely. For all his faults Romney is a man, and Obama is a man-child. I really don’t get where all this “Romney isn’t going to fight” nonsnse is coming from.. only people who have slept through the primary season could remotely believe Romney won’t fight and won’t be willing to get dirty if that’s what it takes.
Suddenly I’m getting this sinking feeling that you are going to disappear from this thread after your whiny post was obliterated.
Laughable. My sign-up date and my opposition to the lying flip-flopper means that I’m an Obama troll? Try indimidating someone else.
Romney knows how to fight and fight dirty. The problem is he thinks Palin is his opponent not that fellow liberal Obama.
Your sign on date is public information. Why does that cause you whine ‘intimidation’? Very alinskyesque that

Maybe you can get me zotted for not getting behind your new-found man Romney. Good luck.
I’m certainly not supporting your little barry bastard commie. Kinda gets to ya, eh?
