All Seth Horvitz wanted was a Westinghouse 39-inch LED television. Instead, he got a high-caliber, semi-automatic assault rifle.
The Washington resident, who had ordered the television through a third-party vendor on Amazon.com, first realized that something wasn't quite right when a long, narrow box showed up at his apartment Tuesday, DCist reported.

But he was “in” with his protest before the package trace.

What is "high powered?"...what is a "high caliber"?!
Must be a belt-fed, multi=barrel, electric fired 30mm auto-cannon./sarc

I want to know that. My guess is that they wrote that simply cuz it sexes the story up.

Ah, the wonders of modern ‘journalism’...
“High Powered Assault Weapon” - as opposed to a “Low Powered Assault Weapon”??
And in the article, “High-caliber rifle” - the most common calibers for ‘assault rifles’ (especially the ‘high-powered’ ones) are 5.56mm (.223 cal), 7.62mm (.30cal) and 9mm (.38 cal) - none of which is considered a particularly ‘high caliber’....
Never let the facts get in the way of some good ol’ fashioned breathless propaganda....

Horvitz's name and address were on the mailing label. But inside the box, an invoice contained the address of a Pennsylvania gun shop."Items get mixed up sometimes, but never on this scale," Horvitz told DCist. "I didn't think I was getting into a gun/electronics dealer."
The poor gun dealer is going to be getting a visit from the BATF.
I am sure this Horvitz will be getting a visit as well and he will at the very least be spending a lot of uncompensated time talking to investigators and lawyers.
If he is smart he will soon have a lawyer of his own.

What is "high powered?"...what is a "high caliber"?! It was a SIG Sauer SIG716 (7.62 x 51mm) semi-automatic rifle. Similar to .308 caliber.
It's worth around $2,000. He should have considered himself fortunate - like a lottery winner.
FTA:
Seth Horvitz, who lives in the northeast quadrant of the US capital, said he contacted police immediately after a parcel delivery service left the military-style SIG Sauer SIG716 at his apartment door. "They were a little confused at first. They've never seen anything quite like it," he told Fox 5, a local television station.
"They just took my information and then said: 'We'll handle this weapon because it's illegal to keep here.' It's illegal to transport in a car, so it can't be returned."
While the box was addressed to Horvitz, who had ordered a flat-screen television from a third-party retailer via Amazon.com, an invoice inside the box suggested the gun was supposed to go to a Pennsylvania gun shop.
A spokesman for Washington's Metropolitan Police Department told AFP on Wednesday that the case -- which comes on the heels of two mass killings in the United States in less than a month -- remains under investigation.
On its website, the US subsidiary of SIG Sauer, a major European firearms manufacturer that supplies guns to many US police forces, says the SIG716 is "the rifle of choice when you require the power of a larger caliber carbine."

LOL! Anyone else calling BS on this story? Just seems WAY too convenient to come out right after a couple of tragic shootings and it plays right into Obama's gun control/confiscation agenda. Pegs my BS meter.

A high caliber would produce too much recoil for most folks in a semi-automatic self-defense weapon. Maybe it's a good rifle for hunting or defense against larger predators.

Since Amazon doesn’t sell artillery, this seller must have been doing the gun business on the side. Anyhow the wrong label got stuck on the box. In a sane country they’d just send him postage to return it and that would be that. Instead they treat these silly guns (which sans ammo cannot shoot any more than your little boy’s finger can) like nuclear hazardous waste.
