OBAMA: ROMNEY WANTS VP PETRAEUS
Tue Aug 07 2012 12:01:02 ET
**Exclusive**
President Obama whispered to a top fundraiser this week that he believes GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney wants to name Gen. David Petraeus to the VP slot!
"The president wasn't joking," the insider explains to the DRUDGE REPORT.
A Petraeus drama has been quietly building behind the scenes.
Romney is believed to have secretly met with the four-star general in New Hampshire.
The pick could be a shrewd Romney choice. A cross-party pull. The Obama administration hailed Petraeus as one of history's greatest military strategists. Petraeus was unanimously confirmed as the Director of the CIA by the US Senate 94-0.
But Petraeus has categorically asserted that he has NO political ambitions. And Team Obama stands prepared to tie one of their own to "Bush wars." A Petraeus pick could been seen as simply shuffling the decks of power in DC.
"He's a serious man, for seriously dangerous times," notes a top Republican.
A DRUDGE POLL on Tuesday morning showed readers split on if Romney should give it a go.
And the calendar is running out of days.
Developing...
This has been one of my guesses.
It is risky because P has no political experience. Seems to be a very good man. Certainly understands the military and foreign policy.
That would be as bad as Condi. Don’t want Patraeus.
I had always understood that he was a Dem.
Bad choice. Paul Ryan? Good choice!
For people hoping Petraeus at Dept of Defense, he cannot be SecDef until Sept 1st 2021 due to the NSA of 1947.
No polticial experience??? LOL Have you ever worked at the Pentagon??
I think it will be Ryan.
Obama has PROVEN that EVERYTHING can be waived!
Martinez would be da bomb.
The General needs to get that 1957 haircut updated.
Petraeus could have some useful info on Obama after working for the DOD and now the CIA. That probably scares the crap out of Obama.
One could argue that this situation would akin to the situation that Gen Marshall was in, first being at State, then Defense.
On second thought, I think Obama might be scared because if Patraeus resigned then went to Romney campaign, he might be able to really spill the beans about how tough it was to get Obama to kill bin-Laden, and all kind of other in-competencies that Obama has done behind the scenes.
Not worried about political experience. You have to be the best at dealing with people and hardest worker to rise to the top of the military ranks. The thing that worries me is his philosophy, which we don’t know. Is he a neo-conservative or was he just following orders? Where does he stand on God, guns, and gays? We know nothing about him.
Let’s see...Romney has no stance on the Chick Fil A situation...pissed off the Catholic League and social Conservatives....there goes one part of the voting block.
Now he is gonna go with General Liberal for VP?
He is handing the election to Obama with a bow on it.
Rubio is the only pick that makes sense. He is hispanic, a tea party member, and the future for how the GOP should be. Even Stevie Wonder can see that. Romney would lock up Florida and at least 50% of the Hispanic voting block in this country with that one pick.
Suicidal choice to go with anyone else but Rubio. The General brings nothing to this ticket but problems and more Bush era campaign commercials.
yep
I am in favor of Rubio, but be prepared for the outcry from birthers.
Apparently, Mark Levin has no eligibility issues with Rubio (neither do I).
I have heard that Romney’s folks have an active campaign to feed mis-information to Obama’s campaign through various methods including Obama’s ‘tip lines’
They said Obama’s team has been caught using this mis-info more than a few times so far
I think that is funny as all heck
He’s a conditioned Dem lapdog.
For months, the leftist freaks ran ads calling him Gen. Betray-us, now he runs Hussein’s CIA.
Compromised all the way at the very least.
Him as VP would make Bush’s reach-across-the-aisle “diplomacy” look like patriotism by comparison.
Romney might as well pick Sandy Burglar if he’s going to throw away victory in November.
So just how is Jeb and all of the Bushies now a days?
Moveon.org would absolutely love it .....’Betrayus’. Of course then Romney could get in front of a microphone and tell Zero to get his stooges to knock it off.
I would also expect outcry for Rubio being an amnesty pimp, a traitor who endorsed Mitt Romney early on and his covering for Muzzies against Bachmann.
Interesting...LOL!
I’m neutral on P’s nomination.
I would like to point out, though that Eisenhower had no elected political experience, either, and he wasn’t a bad president.......
I have the same question regarding this guy as I have for any unknown quantity regarding VP (whether it is Condeleeza Rice, etc.): where do they stand on the issues? Where do they stand on replacing the graduated income tax with a flat tax or the Fair Tax, building border walls, deporting illegals, repealing ObummerCare, abolishing the Depts. of Education, Energy, HUD, and HHS, cutting spending by 40%, ending foreign wars of occupation in mohammedan lands, honoring the 9th and 10th amendments, etc.
Where does Patraeus stand on these and other issues?
If we don’t know, why would anyone support the guy?
I would love this story of Obama drama.
It couldn't be that he's driving traffic to his website.
Your comment echoes my experience. While I have never been in the military, I have worked with a LOT of ex-Navy officers and enlisted. I found the officers to fall into two categories: the extremely competent, and the politicians.
The extremely competent are the smartest, nicest, most conscientious people I have ever met. They got their advancement by being the best at what they did.
But they don’t advance as fast as the politicians. They know how to parrot the company line, no matter the obvious insanity/stupidity of it.
I have no concern about Petraeus' qualifications to be president or vice-president whatsoever.

Not in a million years is this going to happen. He’ll pick me before he picks Petraeus. Its more than likely going to be Rob Portman.
Choosing Petraeus affirms Obama’s current military and Big Brother strategies. I like Rand Paul, because he gives the US military prudence and he gives the left their drugs.
I’m sure Romney will announce his choice thru Barry-O.
Bad move.
Five minutes after Ryan’s chosen the Dems will saturate TV with ads telling seniors they’ll be eating dog food under Ryan’s plan. Ryan is an economic genius but he will be portrayed as an economic nightmare and a direct descendant of the Marquis d’Evremonde. An attention span challenged America will have little patience to actually listen to the facts. Ideologically a Ryan choice is attractive. Electorally it’s deadly to the GOP.

Actually, I think Romney handled the Chick-Fil-A controversy correctly. Politicians weighing in on local matters or just what one business owner said has gotten out of control. In the old days, the President was above such trivial things. 0bama changed that with ‘the cops acted stupidly’. He’s reduced and demeaned the office but that’s part of 0bama’s mission, right? Romney was right not to weigh in. Let’s hope he at least tries to bring dignity back to the office of the president.
“I am in favor of Rubio”
me too:
1. He’s brilliant. Maybe the smartest guy in the Senate.
2. Extremely articulate; very, very fast on his feet. Would be a formidable campaigner and debater.
3. Young and energetic.
4. Conservative.
5. Drop dead gorgeous (and believe me, this DOES make a favorable impression on quite a few of the ladies.)
6. Of Cuban Hispanic descent and from Florida. (Romney really needs some geographic and/or ethnic/gender balance for his ticket.)
A VP candidate like Rubio would tie the Commie Stream Press in knots. And I think a pick like Rubio would generate significant buzz and would be seen as a bit out of the box (but not too far out of the box). It would signal that Romney is capable of shaking things up a bit. Not to mention the beneficial effects regarding Florida’s EVs. Plus I think it would get the Hispanic community paying a bit more attention to the election and Romney, and in a good way at that. And finally, I think Rubio would present a very serious headache to the Obama campaign, in more ways than one.
Biden - note to self - get White House Chef to stop serving burritos to POTUS.
Baloney.
#29: He (Petraeus) probably doesn’t know where he stands on these issues. However, even WE know where he stands on Israel.
“I am in favor of Rubio”
I should have fallaciously added:
“Romney/Rubio and Tippecanoe”
At any rate, “Romney/Rubio” has a ring to it, don’t you think?
I served as a Military Police Officer and Provost Marshal. In that capacity, I had ample opportunity to formally and informally discuss law enforcement issues with any number of senior field grade and general officers. I think many people would be surprised at their prevailing views on the 2nd Amendment (Norm Schwarzkopf being a notable exception). I can't speak to Gen. Petraeus's views on the issue, but many, many General Officers will tell you that "civilians" have no need for "military style weapons."
I personally suspect that most of these folks have spent their entire adult lives in controlled environments, living on relatively safe installations, and as they were promoted they increasingly became the ones doing the controlling. While they are generally superior organizers, managers and leaders, not all their skill sets and attitudes translate well to civilian life. I do realize I'm speaking in blanket generalities (pun intended), and I apologize to those who don't fit the mold, but I still think most traditional American conservatives would be somewhat taken aback if given the opportunity to discuss the 2nd Amendment with many of our senior military leaders.
Romney is a disaster. The GOP is a disater.
Maybe he should just pick Sen Graham-nesty as VP so all the cards are on the table,
If we dont know, why would anyone support the guy?

Hey let us know where Romney stands on those issues.
Romney or Petraeus...? ;)
