Cruz: Tea party ‘overwhelmingly’ behind Romney
Washington Times ^ | 8/6/12 | By Sean Lengell

Posted on 08/06/2012 6:09:52 AM PDT by Kinder Gentler Machinegun Hand

Despite some worries among tea-party activists regarding Mitt Romney’s conservative credentials, Mr. Cruz predicted the movement will “overwhelmingly” support the presumptive Republican presidential nominee in November.

“The grass roots are energized because the absolutely highest priority in the country in November is to defeat Barack Obama,” Mr. Cruz said. “I have spoken with literally thousands and thousands of tea-party activists — I have yet to meet a single tea-party leader that is not going to vote for Mitt Romney and work hard for him.”

While polls show Mr. Romney is significantly trailing President Obama for support among Hispanic voters, Mr. Cruz said Hispanics should feel comfortable with the Republicans because their values are fundamentally conservative.

Mr. Cruz — whose father immigrated to the U.S. from Cuba — added that Hispanics are about “hard work and responsibility” and don’t like to accept government handouts.

“In my life, I never once have seen an Hispanic panhandler,” he said. “Because in our community, it would be viewed as shameful to be out on the street begging.”

When asked on Fox News if Mr. Romney would be wise to pick a tea-party-supported conservative like Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida or House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as his running mate, Mr. Cruz said both men would be “terrific” choices but declined to speculate further.

What does Cruz know? He’s nothing. A nobody.

All he did is win one stinking primary.

BFD.

How does that “achievement” stack up against the geniuses here in FR who know everything about everything?

It doesn’t, that’s how.

The know-it-alls in FR are way, way, way more accomplished than Cruz! They post on FR every day!

Let’s call it like it is: CRUZ IS A RINO!!!!

We’re screwed ...

IMHO, we were screwed in the primaries, and it was by the GOP electorate. The same one who voted for McQueeg in 2008. [and by having nine people tossing their hats in the GOP ring which allows for a less desirable candidate to win with < 30%]. Deja vu all over again.

And we are cheering about it...

I didn't see any "cheering". If you've been given lemons, you can either make lemonade or you can give up and suck on the lemons. I think Cruz just decided to make lemonade.

IMHO, a huge silent majority of FReepers concurs with your perspective on this. It’s just not much fun to say so here.

There’s the Tea Party and the Me Party.

The Me Party is at it’s usual level of a few percentage points. Just like every election.

Anyone who thinks the way out of this situation is to punish the country with 4 more years of Obama is a fool. He has been constrained by the need to win reelection in order to finish us off. Look at his violations of the constitution so far and multiply that by 1000. We simply will not have any freedom left after another 4 years.

The pro-obama trolls ...

That post 'stinks up the place' too.

No better than the posts that call other FReepers rombots, sellouts, unprincipaled, rino's, etc. etc. for merely being pragmatic.

RE :”Gave a talk near Akron to a Tea Party with nearly 80 people last Thursday night. They asked who I supported and I said that while Romney wasn't my “first, second, or even 23d choice, right now he is the ONLY choice.” I got a massive ovation, and not one person all night told me that he was backing anyone but Romney.
Course, according to some Freepers, I made it up and/or these aren't real Tea Party people.

Well, I really dread a Romney POTUS and it looks like he isnt trying to win anyway, classic RINO loser syndrome. I have seen it played out in Maryland governor's race, and McCain 2008 too although he had lots of other problems.

You have to do what your conscience tells you.

What bothers me about RINO loser syndrome is they allow the liberal to get away in tack. While Romney is saying Obama is a nice guy who just hasnt worked out, obama is tearing about Romney's character slice by slice defining him as the last guy anyone could trust, which is easy to do. Romney acts as if the election will just be handed to him.

Maybe after the convention Republicans will get better ....

Vote for Romney ... yes.

Donate time, talent or treasure. Hell no. See my tagline.

We need another 4 years of Obama and then maybe...

...the destruction of America as founded will be complete. Another 4 years of Obama could/would see changes introduced that would be irreversible short of bloodshed.

RE :”Romney is not even the official GOP candidate for President. It is a bit early

Obama is using the GWB vs Kerry strategy to define Romney before Romney defines himself, which it's not clear if he planned on doinghimself.

So by the time of the convention obama wants a picture of Romney in undecided voters head's to be a crass rich elite opportunist who no-one would trust for anything.

Romney's typical Santa Clause Tax campaign plan calls for lots of specific tax cuts paid for by unspecified reduction of ‘loopholes’/deductions and unspecified budget cuts while claiming to be deficit neutral, which of course will never happen. So now Dems are out there claiming the loopholes are just tax increases on most voters to pay for tax cuts for the rich. ( BTW : When McCain made a similar claim about Obama in 2008 the MSM called it untrue, I remember even Megan Kelly joined in. )

strategy Define Romney first.

By the way, a CBO scored deficit neutral tax cut allows the Senate majority to pass it with 50+VP permanently. Not that I can see that happening.

One of the last things I want is a Romney presidency, but the absolute dead last thing I want is a second term for Obozo.

What election are you watching???

Obama hasn’t had 1 day of offense since it became obvious that Romney was going to be the nominee... If you are talking about the Bane nonsense, the more Obama beats that horse the lower he polls.

Obama is floundering, he’s down 10+ points in the “swing states”, 1 in 5 democrats are openly telling pollsters they have no intention of voting for Obama. The idea Obama is beating down Romney is laughable. Obama has been written off by about 60% of the electorate, it doesn’t matter what he does or says, its falling on deaf ears.

All Obama is doing is preaching to his choir, and the more he “attacks” the lower he polls.

I really don’t know what election you are watching.

WOW< you sound very optimistic.
Have you been listening to Rush lately? Or Hannity? You know they have a history of predicting Republicans victories days before they lose in landslides, Hannity worse than Rush because he did it again in 2008 after he did it in 2006. This gives his listeners a great feeling till election night or the day after when they find the world is upside down compared to their beliefs, then they cry and shutoff the computer and TV for weeks or months.

With the economy this bad Romney should be 20 to 30 points ahead of Obama.
