Cruz: Tea party ‘overwhelmingly’ behind Romney
Washington Times ^ | 8/6/12 | By Sean Lengell

Despite some worries among tea-party activists regarding Mitt Romney’s conservative credentials, Mr. Cruz predicted the movement will “overwhelmingly” support the presumptive Republican presidential nominee in November.

“The grass roots are energized because the absolutely highest priority in the country in November is to defeat Barack Obama,” Mr. Cruz said. “I have spoken with literally thousands and thousands of tea-party activists — I have yet to meet a single tea-party leader that is not going to vote for Mitt Romney and work hard for him.”

While polls show Mr. Romney is significantly trailing President Obama for support among Hispanic voters, Mr. Cruz said Hispanics should feel comfortable with the Republicans because their values are fundamentally conservative.

Mr. Cruz — whose father immigrated to the U.S. from Cuba — added that Hispanics are about “hard work and responsibility” and don’t like to accept government handouts.

“In my life, I never once have seen an Hispanic panhandler,” he said. “Because in our community, it would be viewed as shameful to be out on the street begging.”

When asked on Fox News if Mr. Romney would be wise to pick a tea-party-supported conservative like Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida or House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as his running mate, Mr. Cruz said both men would be “terrific” choices but declined to speculate further.

Standard party stuff. I take it with a grain of salt.

Is Romney ever going to fight back against Obama? He acts like he is scared, or he thinks he can win by doing nothing, obama is tearing Romney apartwith attacks without so far turning off voters to himself.

I have seen a few good Republican ads played on cable stations. But Romney has played into Obama’s hands.

Well, I don’t know about ‘overwhelmingly’ behind Romney, but I’d say they ‘overwhelmingly’ oppose that big-eared incompetent, over-his-head, marxist sumbeech!

Right! If Cruz expects the support of the national party in his race, he'd better be a cheerleader for the presumptive nominee! In fact, that applies not only to current candidates, but to anyone who wants or expects a future in the Republican party . . .

Of course that did not hold for Mr. RomneyCARE.

FLASHBACK:

The McCain/Palin ticket was up ++4 to 10 pts
in some polls, days prior to Election 2008.
So rather than helping the GOP, Romney and
TeamROMNEY and the RNME (Republican National Media Establishment)
decided …to attack Gov. Palin to throw Election2008.

Romney, and the Van der Sloot RNME RINOs for Obama in 2008

Late in October, The American Spectator's The Prowler revealed:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers…
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide…
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
"Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."

The Palmetto Scoop reported: "One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was
the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"I’m told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palin’s people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romney’s former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
… aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw
that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.

"These staffers are now out trying to finish her off ….hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."

"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign?
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the “Diva” leak was Nicolle Wallace’s husband."

"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"

"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"

"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"

"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"

"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"

Glad I missed the party yesterday.

Those Rombots just don't get that it!

We need another 4 years of Obama and then maybe we'll get a good Christian Constitutionalists Conservative nominee to vote for.

Like I say, standard political stuff. No point in complaining.

Besides, lets say Romney loses which is certainly possible. The survivors need to be on record opposing Obama. Look at Rush's half hearted late support of McCain in 2008.

If the convention is a parade of RINOs I am going to puke.

Evidently Mr. Cruz has never come to Free Republic and seen our Romney haters giving aid and comfort to Obama.

Look at post number ten. Their plan is to elect Obama and hope for a Christian conservative in 2016.

Romney is not even the official GOP candidate for President. It is a bit early.

Gave a talk near Akron to a Tea Party with nearly 80 people last Thursday night. They asked who I supported and I said that while Romney wasn't my "first, second, or even 23d choice, right now he is the ONLY choice." I got a massive ovation, and not one person all night told me that he was backing anyone but Romney.

Course, according to some Freepers, I made it up and/or these aren't real Tea Party people. (FYI, this is considered one of the more active Tea Party groups in that region).
