Black Pastors Oppose President, Democrats on Same Sex Marriage
Townhall.com ^ | August 6, 2012 | Star Parker

Support for same sex marriage is now in the Democratic Party preliminary platform. Once approved by the full platform committee and voted on at the convention, same sex marriage will have the formal support of the Democratic Party.

But as Democrats institutionalize their support for same sex marriage, their relationship with the Party’s most loyal constituency, black Americans, becomes increasingly uneasy.

A new survey just released by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life shows 65 percent of Democrats supporting same sex marriage compared to just 40 percent of blacks.

A group of 3,700 plus black pastors, the Coalition of African-American Pastors, under the leadership of Rev. William Owens, has moved to formally oppose the Democratic Party and President Obama on this issue.

The group is spearheading a “Mandate for Marriage” campaign to gather 100,000 signatures on a petition declaring support for traditional marriage and calling “on President Obama to repudiate his assertion that gay marriage is a civil right.”

These black pastors are not in the business of politics nor are they policy wonks. They are driven by commitment to Biblical truths and the direct challenge to and rejection of these truths by social acceptance of homosexual behavior and same sex marriage.

They don’t see Biblical truths as academic points divorced from the practical realities of life. They see them as the rules that sustain life. And they see the crises spreading in their communities and in our nation as acceptance of these truths fall by the wayside.

HIV/AIDS is devastating black America. Reading the grim statistics from the Center for Disease Control makes clear that this plague is driven, first and foremost, by homosexual behavior.

According to the CDC, “In 2009, African Americans comprised 14% of the US population but accounted for 44% of all new HIV infections….black men accounted for 70% of the estimated new HIV infections among all blacks…black men who have sex with men represented an estimated 73% of new inflections among black men…”

Research abounds showing the importance of intact traditional family life in the education success of children and of overall economic health.

In recent testimony before the Senate Finance Committee, Ron Haskins of the Brookings Institution noted that individuals who follow three rules – complete high school, work full time, and wait until 21 and get married before having a baby – have a 2 percent chance of winding up in poverty and a 72 percent chance of being in the middle class.

Since the 1960s, American family life in general has deteriorated with the departure from traditional values and the concomitant growth in government and the welfare state.

But deterioration of black family life has been the most pronounced.

In 2008, according to a Pew Research Center report, 32 percent of black adults were married, compared to 61 percent in 1960.

These black pastors understand that collapse of family, out of wedlock births, single parent households, promiscuity, drugs and crime are the crises undermining black physical and economic health today. And they understand that a society that accepts as valid alternative lifestyles which undermine life sustaining Biblical truths is a society that will inevitably promote and advance this deadly behavior.

And they understand that the weakest communities are the most vulnerable - which means their own communities.

This Coalition of African-American pastors is showing, very much in the spirit of the civil rights movement, that the political choices facing blacks are not limited to deciding which political train to get on. They are jumping up front to influence where the train is going.

It’s high time for blacks to serve up some black tea to the Democratic Party, like the Tea Partiers are doing with Republicans, and move to change the values and direction of the party they have loyally supported but that’s no longer representing their interests.

First of all let me congratulate you for being a Black Conservative. You are probably the most hated type in your community.

You therefore have far more courage than I can can even imagine.

There is a black man by the name of Walter Williams who is smarter than any “cracker” I can think of. (Hah, please allow me my twisted sense of humour here. It is my trademark).

Here’s the thing. Obama (who is really a white boy, pretending to be “black” riding the wave of white guilt) will always get 90% of the black vote.

But here’s the clincher — what’s the turnout?

The black turnout will be suppressed, and he will lose this time.

All well and good but will it have any real effect on the vote for the Comrade El Presidente Imam Husein Obama ?

I doubt it will, and I can understand why. If the white "race" had been enslaved for several centuries by blacks in the American colonies and then by half the US states, and even after emancipation had endured over a century of 3rd class citizenship we would no doubt vote in the same manner as black voters did in the last election and IMHO will vote again next November. I don't like how I'm pretty sure they will vote next time, but as I said before I can understand why they probably will regardless of what their ministers correctly believe about Ocommy's and his former Baptist pastor's falsified revision of biblical Christianity.

I wouldn’t want to fly under false colors. If you read the post carefully, I said “IF I’m a...” (Note the IF)

I’m just a guy who used to work in politics expressing an opinion on how this COULD play out politically.

If black pastors and blacks in general want to make a point with Obama and the Dim party, they simply need to say we blacks refuse to vote for you. THAT will get their attention.

Are you a paid Obama supporter? You sound remarkably like the WaPo in this article. WaPo telling the sheeple to “ignore” the black pastors must mean they are afraid of losing a big chunk of the black vote. Remember: “First they ignore us. . . “

So he’ll get 95% black support instead of 96%?

I am a member of a social ministry run strictly by white volunteers but, by far, the majority of the people receiving assistance are black single mothers with multiple children and more on their way.

Have any of the black pastors addressed this outrageous behavior or are they ignoring it because it is part of their “culture”?

Are you a paid Obama supporter?

Oh, please... now, THAT's the funniest thing I've read all morning!

But no... I'm not "ignoring" the black pastors... I'm just taking their words with a large grain of salt. Remember all those disgruntled PUMAs in 2008, and how they were oh-so-energized to defeat Obama?

And remember... those pastors are saying they're not supporting Obama ON THAT ISSUE. They're not saying they won't support Obama on 6 Nov. That's the level of support (or non-support) that really counts.

Exactly...

That qualifier, "on this issue" says, "but on the other issues, we got your back."

[Sure, they'll grumble about 0bama’s embrace of homosexuality in all things, but they're not going to desert him on election day.]

They won't desert him but if they holler loud enough they can create a public scene which Obama will feel compelled to fix. He is very skittish. His decision to “evolve” on this issue was based on pressure from big money donors rather than any personal epiphany. Obama let Joe Biden release a trial balloon on a Sunday morning news show so they could poll before he either walked it back or made it official. But Reverend Owens now wants Obama to choose between Hollywood and Baltimore. The calculation isn't about black votes per se but the image of Obama supporting the values of a decadent elite over the values of his righteous kinsmen. Of course the news media will make every attempt to discourage Owens.

“With few exceptions, most of these Black pastors are just upset at having privileges based on their ancestry being made equivalent to privileges based on homosexual behavior.”

Indeed, I feel they have every right to feel insulted by this.

sick, you mention blacks are more likely to back gay marriage after attending University.
Is it possible liberal elite ‘educators’ are passing on their biases?

Note research on prejudice against conservatives - link below:

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

“In decisions ranging from paper reviews to hiring, many social and personality psychologists admit that they would discriminate against openly conservative colleagues.”

This finding surprised the researchers. The survey questions “were so blatant that I thought we’d get a much lower rate of agreement,” Mr. Inbar said.

>overwhelmingly they still say they would never vote GOP under any circumstance.

Hopefully they are motivated enough to NOT come out and vote for zero to help offset our own obama enablers that refuse to vote for the Republican candidate.

But on election day, the overwhelming preponderance of them and their congregations will vote RAT.
