U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd obtained secret FBI documents about the civil rights movement that were leaked by the CIA and triggered an angry confrontation between the two agencies in the 1960s, according to newly released FBI records.
Byrd, who died in June 2010 at age 92, had sought the FBI intelligence while suspecting that communists and subversives were guiding the civil rights cause, the records show.

He then spent the next 4 decades aiding and abetting those same communists and subversives at every turn.
Hmmmm....so what ABC wants us to take away from this is that questioning any communist infiltration in government is akin to racism. Got it. (eye roll). Yet more blocking for Obama from the main stream media. Go figure.

ABC seems very “incurious” regarding the evidence that communists and subversives were guiding the civil rights movement! It only concerns ABC that the evidence was leaked.
The true record of MacCarthy though, was that he was RIGHT....the communists had infiltrated the government, hollywood and the civil rights movement. It is all in the record and a FACT....not myth nor smear like the left would have us all believe. The communists (statists,socialists,Marxists) are still heavily imbedded in our government,media,hollywood and academia. It’s time once again to flush them out into the open for all of America to see. You probably know all this. Just wanted to post it for the record.

I don’t know about leading the civil rights movement, but there was sufficient evidence that they were supporting it at several levels. One piece of info I do recall is that two of MLK’s speech writers were open Communists.

My late mother (died sept. 11 last year) was a staunch Goldwater supporter and also worked tirelessly for the civil rights movement in the south....that is until she realized the communists had infiltrated the movement and were coming to the south from up north in droves to cause trouble and chaos. She told me about it years ago. The other big lie of the democrats is that they were instrumental in the civil rights movement. They were the klan where we lived and tried to intimidate my family for my mothers work. the dems did not get involved in the civil rights movement until many many years later. It was republicans who were on the forefront of the work to grant blacks equal rights. God rest her soul. Don’t worry, I will continue to post the truth...she taught me well.

Yes, indeed, the revisionist history is sickening. To see Blacks end up back on the old Democrat plantation and singularly linked to the ideology of Stalinist enslavement is one of the most revolting developments in American history. That leftist ideology has done more damage, physically and psychologically, to the Black community than bondage in the fields and/or a Klansman’s wettest dream could possibly have done or imagined. Booker T. Washington and Frederick Douglass would be horrified.
I agree wholeheartedly. My mother didn’t put her family at risk to follow any politician or party though. She did it because she had the true heart of a conservative Christian. She did it because it was the right thing to do and it cost her much in the community. Standing up for what was right,as a white woman in the south, was not popular or welcomed in many quarters at the time. She was a young mother with three children and a husband trying to climb up the corporate ladder.
She risked it all, quite literally, to stand for freedom. We are called on today to do the same thing. To step out of our comfort zone and save this country from those that would destroy all that is good and great about our country and it’s people.
If we lose our bearings as conservatives now, between what is right and what is wrong, I fear our country will never recover. We are the only thing standing in the way of the evil of communism/socialism sweeping our great nation into the ash bin of history and into a living hell on earth for all.
All I can say is thank God for Free Republic and the Tea Party! We are coming together. The Sleeping Giant has awoken.

Don’t be fooled by the easy way with which they conduct themselves right now. The sleeping giant has awoken.. Have faith. People of all persuasions are waking up to the horror that lays at the root of the leftists’ agenda.
