[ Virgil ] Goode: Ruling will not affect his campaign

By BULLETIN, AP REPORTS -

Former congressman Virgil Goode said Tuesday that a judge’s determination that a Virginia election law is unconstitutional will not affect his candidacy for president.

U.S. District Judge John Gibney on Monday struck down a law that allowed only state residents to circulate petitions to get presidential candidates on the general election ballot.

Ruling in favor of the Libertarian Party of Virginia, Gibney said the restriction severely burdened the party’s freedom of speech and is not narrowly tailored to promote a compelling state interest.

Goode, who lives in Rocky Mount and formerly represented the 5th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, is the Constitution Party’s presidential candidate in the Nov. 6 election. He said the ruling will have no effect on his candidacy because everyone who has circulated petitions for him has been from Virginia, although he and some petitioners have gone out of state to gather some signatures from voters.

The law, as it stood, “was fine with me,” Goode said. However, he said that different states have different laws, and he thinks the judge probably looked at that factor in making his ruling.

Virginia is going to be important to Goode. And to your boy Romney.

GOP-E should have pushed a conservative.

Interesting how these stories quoting Virgil just keep on popping up in VA. I suspect it’ll happen a lot more.

The gop should’ve picked a conservative.

Now wouldn’t it be ironic if the state whose gop decided it didn’t want to “clutter” the presidential primary ballot ended up being the same state that handed their chosen candidate his posterior on a platter?

Like it or not - which I don’t - Romney was chosen by garnering the majority of primary votes in quite a few states. Now spoilers like Goode and a few others are evidently satisfied to gum up the works.

We’ve got to go with what we’ve got or we’ll be stuck in Obamaland permanently.

Romney recently did a good job for himself in Britain, Israel and Poland, in spite of democrat protestations because they’ve got nothing else to go with. Nothing.

I’m on board with Romney now because anything else is suicide.

SUICIDE!

It’s time to put our feelings aside and rally for the sake of the country. Otherwise, they will be no United States left.

I’m going to.

You vote how your principles and concience decide you should. Not a thing wrong with that. I intend to.

Romney actually hasn't got the nomination, yet, but there was some cheating going on, Virginia and Florida pop to mind. BTW, are all of Florida's delegates going to be counted because they held the election early? Or just half, like the rules say?

We won't be stuck in Obamaland anymore than we're still stuck in Clintonville.

Goode isn't a spoiler. He's a candidate, that did what was required to get on the ballot in VA. He's there.

Sorry if you don't like it.

GOP-E should have muzzled Rove from badmouthing conservatives, and put up a conservative instead of a pro-abort, anti-gun, socialized medicine, big-government liberal. Blame them, not Goode.

It’s time to put our feelings aside

Oh, it's not 'feelings'. It's principles. How one lives ones life, the rules one uses to make judgements.

Killing babies is wrong, supporting those that enable killing babies is wrong... stuff like that.

You vote your principles. I'll vote mine.

Oh come now.

Four more years of an administration that is the most radical, detructive, divisive, pro-Marxist, pro-muzzie, pro-death, pro-illegal immigration, pro-racialist, anti-free enterprise, anti-American, anti-Christian, anti-everything we love and stand for can't be so bad.

I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

It won’t affect my campaign either. Nor Pat Paulson’s. Because all of ours are equally as important as Virg’s

Still calling the efforts to ensure Obama is reelected (just so long as Romney loses), a moral bit of standing up for principles? Goode can only get any sort of recognition in one State and the best he is likely to do is to dilute Romney support - if being a factor that migh give Virginia to Obama isn't being a spoiler, then what constitutes a spoiler?

Goode will get support Romney abandoned.

You guys should have thought about that when you were messing with the primary.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but was this not the reason Newt, Perry and I think one or 2 others did not make it onto the VA primaries because they had used out of state volunteers?

You know, every 4 years we’re treated to a series of tirades by republicans telling us that if we don’t vote for their crummy candidate, all manner of ills will befall us. America will end. Depressions. Plagues of boils. Whatever. The only things that change are that the tirades get more shrill every time, and their candidates get worse.

It’s a suckers game.

Through lying, cheating, and subterfuge, and THIS:

Next for GOP leaders: Stopping Sarah Palin

Screw Romney and the GOP-E he rode in on!

What could go wrong is that instead of the current socialist we could elect a different socialist who will rule with the explicit and tacit consent of the gop. Much as I think the gop is largely useless, it at least makes of a show of opposing radical measures when they emmanate from the other major party. That won’t be the case if the socialist in question has an R after his name.

No, he didn't really. It took a specific act by his state campaign chairman to make it so.

The Virginia primary will always be in question ~ it will hang over his head like a sword of Damocles's for years and years ~ with Bolling, McDonnell and Cantor able to bring it down at will.

Probably not all that good for his credit rating either.

Didn't you think it strange that during the Spring Primary campaign we didn't get any campaign ads on TV in this region?

Since most of those ads run in spots pre-arranged months before (in block sales) the fact there weren't any coming from the big guy means nothing less than the fact that HE KNEW long before.

LOL! Tell the thousands of Virginians who wanted to vote for someone other than willard that he won it fair and square.
