Tea party-backed Ted Cruz has defeated Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.
FILE - In this June 22, 2012 file photo, Texas Senate Candidates Ted Cruz, left, and Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst , right, are seen after their televised debate in Dallas, Texas. Democrats have their thumbs heavily on Republican scales in Senate primaries in Missouri and Wisconsin this summer, hoping to tip the balance and improve their own chances of maintaining a majority in November. The idea isn't as far-fetched as it might sound.
The former state solicitor general won the runoff Tuesday. He'd lost the May 29 primary by a large margin but forced the runoff because Dewhurst fell short of a majority. Cruz advances to the November election to succeed retiring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Cruz painted Dewhurst as a timid career politician too willing to compromise with Democrats.
The race was seen as a national test of the tea party's influence.

yee Haw!!!!!!!!!!!! Romney and the gopE..do you hear us now?
woohoo... awesome!
Way to go Texas, good job!
SWEEEEEEET!
Okay Karl Rove, try to spin this you fat bastard!!!!
Outstanding!!!
So, this is how many for Palin? She endorsed Cruz.
And the collective GOPe/dummycrat pants crapping has commenced. Beeyoootiful.
Way to go, Texas! :-)
Job A: Vanquish the lib dems outright.
B: Then take the fight to the Mod/RINO wing of the GOP and set a fire under THEIR asses, and show them them who is now in control and who their proper master are. We are.
Get an impeachable/do-able GOP level for House and conviction/expulsion comfortable GOP level for Senate, with enough balls for each new Tea party/Conservative GOP candidate, and if Obama, Lord forbid, somehow is reelected on a fluke by the popular socialist masses and waves of dead people, we can at least remove him from office if and when he goes for his next UNconstitutional act. This may be our only safety next left folks for our Republic. Take the House and Senate bit by bit, and take it SOLIDLY with GOP/TEA PARTY CONSERVATIVES as its base and core.
Once again, Texas leads the way. Thank you Texas, seal the deal in November.
This is a definite smack down to the GOP-e. Good for Cruz in my state of Texas.
Haven't you heard?
It’s times like these that give me hope.
Congrats to all my fellow Texan Tea Party folks...we did it.
Not funny!
We got what we wanted, now make it count! Make sure Cruz and all the other true conservatives have the money to win in November. I’m donating generously, and I hope everyone on FR is figuring out what they can afford to donate (and the cost of not donating enough!).
Pathetic and desperate, really.
We’re toasting Ted Cruz with a cold Shiner brew! He needs to have a good strong win in November now, so the dinosaur GOP in TX can’t say that TEA Party candidates can’t win.
As of now it’s a 9 point spread with about half the votes counted.
A great day indeed. Ted Cruz will kick a$$ in the U.S. Senate.
Funny, by January 3, 2013, arguably the two most eloquent orators in the U.S. Senate will be Cuban-American Republicans. Nobody would have predicted that 5 years ago.
Now, can Cruz beat the Democrat?
Romney and the gopE..do you hear us now?”
Local news was comparing how Cruz’s performance in the Senate will measure up again that of Kay Bailey. Lots of discussion about how far right Cruz’s position is on issues and how much Texas will lose because Kay Bailey always found a way to compromise, something they do not view Cruz as being able to do. Not a word about the Tea Party until almost the very end of their discussion and, even then, it was largely dismissive.
“Were toasting Ted Cruz with a cold Shiner brew!”
I am joining you...we keep Shiner cold here in Ohio ready for any and all occasions...especially ones line this...
“Kay Bailey...”
Be gone, KBH...we need those who support the Constitution and who are not afraid to stand up to the likes of Herr Reid et al...

Is he Demhurst or Dewcrist or is he DoneCrisp?
KBH has been voting consistently as a liberal since she decided to resign which allowed Cornyn to look like a COPO - Conservative on Paper Only. I seriously doubt if Cruz is going to cover for Cornyn so it should be interesting to see how this plays out between January 2013 and when Cornyn runs for re-election in 2014.
Hearts are singing in TEXAS tonight! The PPP poll has shown the surge for days and, thankfully, it was real! People have been on fire to vote. Nice for the DC guns to show up for Ted too, and enough can’t be said for Freedom Works contribution, but the ground gamers were the real infantry that pulled this off.
The Tea Party racists pick Cuban-American Canadian Ted Cruz for Senate? Got it.
13 point spread now
U. S. Senator
Ted Cruz 56.80%
David Dewhurst 43.19%
-----------
Railroad Commissioner
Warren Chisum 40.24%
Christi Craddick 59.75%
-----------
Railroad Commissioner - Unexpired Term
Greg Parker 37.80%
Barry Smitherman 62.19%
-----------
Justice, Supreme Court, Place 4
John Devine 53.30%
David Medina 46.69%
If Cornyn shows ‘true colors’ between now and 2014, perhaps you folks down there can find another Cruz (assuming he is what you all there, and we think he is).
Too bad that Gnat Dewhurst troll is no longer around so it’s face could be rubbed in it.
In other news 1994 freshman and and 1996 Nick Lampsdaughter victim Steve Stockman won his runoff.
PATTERSON SAYS “I HAVE GREAT RESPECT FOR LT. GOV. DEWHURST BUT I AM STILL A CANDIDATE IN 2014” — First shot across the bow for 2014 elections
2014 starts now
“WE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
HOORAY!!!!!!
Now on to the next primary, and then General Election. Let’s aim for a Super Majority!!
