House approves streamlined Senate confirmation process

The House Tuesday evening passed a measure to improve the clogged presidential appointee confirmation process by eliminating 169 jobs from requiring Senate approval.
The positions in that category, such as assistant secretaries for public affairs or for administration or management, are ones that rarely spark partisan Senate battles.

Sadly, I suspect the GOP-e is also betting on an obama win.
This will be of net benefit to a Repub president, since Repubs rarely veto a Dem nominee.

There is a good reason for this review process. On the other hand, if you allow guys like Clinton or Obama to have who they want no matter what, what’s the use?

I’ve wondered about that...the Gop-e betting on an obama win. I’ve wondered if they even wanted an Obama win.
So, they run someone who probably won’t win.
What would be their reasons?
1. They make lots of money being outsiders and complainers and writers of books of doom?
OR
2. They see a 2nd great depression and don’t want the blame for it.
OR
3. They’re liberals and want to advance the liberal agenda.

4. Unknown reasons???

It’s getting weird.
The House didn’t need to pass a law. The Senate could have achieved the same “stream lining” by change(s) in it’s own rules that would have put certain “low level” positions on a “fast track” vote to confirm on a mere “voice vote” when all the Senators would know - wink wink, nod, nod - what it would mean. I’m surprised the Senate had not already done this.

The headline is also incorrect. The “process” is unaffected since the House has nothing whatsoever to say about the Senate procedures. Reducing the number of those requiring approval is a different matter.
There were very few positions requiring Senate approval when the Constitution went into effect.
There are probably hundreds or thousands.
Morality has nothing to do with it.
Hopefully they just eliminated those jobs, not just eliminated them from Senate confirmation!
No difference between Romney or Obama winning the election. They both are left of center and will chose liberals for most positions. Romney proved that already. Obama has been doing this for three years. The next four years are a disaster period. I still can’t believe that FREEPERS are excited about a President Romney. I will sit back and watch the disappointment the next four years because there will be a ton of it. I won’t give a bit of pity though cuz you guys want this....You guys want and are happy with Romney.

If Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer are for it, that in and of itself causes me to do a double take.
In this day and age where even the president's own team release top secret information about our operations, I'm not in favor of making the system more lax.
That still doesn't mean that you are not right. It just means I'd rather be on the safe side, than let Harry Reid do what he wants with guys like Mitch McConnell as the only ones standing between us and bad judgment.

It’s Ohio that Romney is up 10 in. Noticed that although the propaganda polls have Obama up 50-46, the internal polls have it 52-42 Romney. And Obama not getting as much coverage for the amount of time he personally spends here. Which actually helps Obama, as his gaffes don’t get covered unless a PAC pays advertising dollars, whereas when Romney doesn’t make a gaffe, the Occupying Media claims he does.

Hardly an argument against senate confirmation, there were very few positions period when the Constitution went into effect.

The way I see it, the more time the Senate spends arguing over whether or not to approve the Presidents man, the less time they spend voting away our rights, dollars, and freedom.

Do you have a link to any accurate poll that is also showing this margin?
Unfortunately, the article points out that these positions are so far down the totem pole that there is no arguing over appointing them in any case, just rubber-stamping. It also points out whole agencies wherein everyone is approved by the Senate.
While President Romney will be an enormous step up over The Disaster, it is false that many here are “excited” by the prospect of him being President.
Almost all are very wary and will closely watch what he does and protest when it is too far out of line. He is NOT a “liberal” either just a “moderate” certainly NOT a radical Leftist raised hating America as currently sits in the White House. He would not bring a Nutcase for First Lady either.
And how can you act as though there is some alternative to Romney at this point? There isn’t. Surely you don’t believe this site to be reflective of common political beliefs and ideas? AT BEST maybe 5% of the population shares them.
BTAIM if we elect a conservative legislature Mitt will be held to conservative standards and won’t govern from the Left. This really should be obvious.
