25 years ago, Newsweek published a controversial cover story titled "Bush Battles the 'Wimp Factor.'"
On Monday, newsstands will carry an equally controversial albeit derivative Newsweek cover story titled "Mitt Romney: A Candidate With a Serious Wimp Problem":
In 1987, this magazine created a famous hubbub by labeling George H.W. Bush a “wimp” on its cover. “The Wimp Factor.” Huge stir. And not entirely fair—the guy had been an aviator in the war, the big war, the good war, and he was even shot down out over the Pacific, cockpit drenched in smoke and fumes, at an age (20) when in most states he couldn’t even legally drink a beer. In hindsight, Poppy looks like Dirty Harry Callahan compared with Romney, who spent his war (Vietnam) in—ready?—Paris. Where he learned ... French. Up to his eyeballs in deferments. Where Reagan saddled up a horse with the masculine name of El Alamein, Mitt saddles up something called Rafalca—except that he doesn’t even really do that, his wife does (dressage). And speaking of Ann—did you notice that she was the one driving the Jet Ski on their recent vacation, while Mitt rode on the back, hanging on, as Paul Begala put it to me last week, “like a helpless papoose”?

Romney is the genuine article: a true wimp...In some respects, he’s more weenie than wimp—socially inept; at times awkwardy ingratiating, at other times mocking those “below” him, but almost always getting the situation a little wrong, and never in a sympathetic way.

The part that I do not understand is why do all the Flamer's, Nellie's, and Pole Smokers who disagree with something about a man, always resort to calling them wimps?

If memory serves, that “wimp” Bush Sr. (WWII fighter pilot) won the election against that macho tank driver Dukakis, despite NewWeak’s cover story.
I do think that Romney has inherited George W. Bush’s kick me sign.

Am betting; Mitt, looks a whole lot better than Obama; when taking aim with a baseball - or tossing a football. . .and that he rides a man's bike and not a girls - as Obama is in the habit. Bet too; that Mitt does not give a 'flighty' wave; and that he can 'do' a real Military salute.
(We know he has 'five boys'; and has a beautiful wife. . .nuff said.)
Most of here; 'get the real picture' of Obama; the one who 'ducks when Michelle roars'; and who fears the truth, of himself.
The real measure of a man/President; is one who can be be humbled by the 'power'; not inflated. One who knows humility; but is never weak. A man who has courage; not bravado; and all the 'inauthentic' that goes with it. A man who can laugh at himself; while sparing others. That is 'authentic' strength; the kind Obama has absolute NO experience; or recognition of.
THAT said; Mitt needs to work on his 'weeny image'! He is of the 'old school'; and so the 'wrong school' on 'making nice' - as if this, were a 'winning' MO.
In today's billious; dangerous; enemy-filled world; and in light of the immediate ideological threats we face from an 'American' President; and All His Men; we need the truth and courage of conviction to speak it; not just 'word of it'. And not just those words; 'nicely put'. . .

Yes. Very positive choice. I like him Thanks. Hope he is on my ballot. I will vote for Senate and certain local stuff. My Rep is a stripy pants Rino who makes me sick.

Doesn’t Newsweek realize this cover brings Romney’s opposition to mind? Don’t they realize that Romney is Macho Man compared to the simpering, whiney, prissy girlie-man who presently lives in our White House?
