Mandeville, LA Its all about preparation for the unexpected, wingshooting, and more, this week on Tom Gresham's Gun Talk® Radio, the original nationally-syndicated radio talk show about guns and the shooting sports.
John Benner, a 37-year veteran police Lieutenant, is the President and Chief Instructor at the Tactical Defense Institute in Ohio. Training everyone from law enforcement and military to federal agencies and civilians on seven different ranges, TDI focuses on both tactical firearms and physical self-defense. Benner stops in Sunday with info on how to prepare and protect yourself in different situations. For more info, visit http://tdiohio.com.
When you want to talk wingshooting, head directly to Fieldsport, LTD and Dr. Shotgun, aka Bryan Bilinski. Host of an annual Wingshooting School, (each week this August), Fieldsport will begin this upcoming month of classes with a Grand Opening Party for their new location in Traverse City, MI. Bilinski visits to discuss the new gun room, the August school, and part two of the Michael McIntosh Estate Auction, to be held this September. For more info, visit http://fieldsportltd.com.
Also on this Sunday, the Second Amendment Foundations Alan Gottlieb is back with the latest info on the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty.
Pow!!
FReepmail to get On/Off the Gun Talk Pinglist
THX for da ping
Anytime!
B.A.T.F.
LOL!!
Howdy & good evening, mylife; thanks for the ping.
POW!!
This is a very good show this evening.
I think Antonin Scalia may have funked us.
Hiya guys!
Bang!
I’m not sure yet.
He was talking about hand held rocket launchers.
Howdy doc!
howdy!
I think the UN Arms Treaty is dead in the water for now.
He also said walking around with a beheading ax during the time of the founding fathers could be regulated. Mixed signals if you ax me.
Hope Tom talks about it tonight.
I hear that loonie Lautenberg is gonna introduce legislation tomorrow to try to place limits on on-line and mail-order ammunition orders.
These idiots just can’t stop themselves.
I think so as well.
Yup.
It will never fly.
Yeah, I forgot about the axe comment.
That’s why I stocked up last week.
I think we are most likely to see hi cap magazine restrictions over ammo restrictions.
Like “Jason”, it’ll be coming back again... someday.
I have all the Olympics DVR’d. Why the bloody hell didn’t they show Kim Rhodes shooting?
How cool would it be if this gal became the first Olympian to medal in 5 consecutive Olympics?
Have you ever used a 40 round mag in your AR? We’re capped in Merryland at 20 rounds. And the libtards want to limit it to 10.
Have any of y’all ever shot trap? I haven’t, but it seems pretty challenging.
I rarely put more than 10 in any mag, but I want the right to filler up.
Not me.
I would like to try it.
I shoot trap to stay in practice to shoot quail, pheasant, chucker and other upland game birds.
I have. It is challenging.
I’m the worst wing shot this side of the Mississippi.
Pheasants and quail laugh at me.
Deer are much easier to hit. :)
The only shotgunning I have done at my range is the five station sporting clays. I’m not very good, but it’s a lot of fun.
UN arms treaty is dead!
The wife unit is watching chick flicks on TV so I am catching up on Gun Talk podcasts. Seems I got 3 weeks behind.
Last week was a good show.
Fun is good.
Sounds like good practice!!
I’m also a bad wing shot. Haven’t done any in years.
The pheasant and quail population here in Iowa has been dwindling terribly over the last decade or so. There just aren’t that many birds anymore.
The next local gun show is coming in about three weeks, and I'm looking to get a 9MM pistol. Can you give some ideas based on your personal experience, that might fit my requirements!
I'm looking to buy used, from a non-dealer, so something with a great reliability reputation would be great.
Next, I'm wanting something that would be suitable (from a magazine capacity and barrel length standpoint) if I finally "man-up" and go to an IDPA shoot.
If it could meet that requirement, as well as be somewhat concealable for carry purposes, so much the better. My hands are kinda small, so something with a really large grip would be a problem.
Last but not least, I'd like to leave Glocks out of the equation (feel free to flame away, lol).
Thanks for any feedback you can give me.
OK, I’ll bite; Why no Glocks? striker fired?, no safeties? plastic?
IDPA has a max mag capacity of 10 rounds.
I think you can use a high cap pistol but you can’t load more than 10.
Well, there’s a lot of good options out there. For me, I’m kind of an XD guy. They are super reliable and they won’t break the bank.
But that’s just me, everyone here will have their own preference. And they will all be good options.
“Were capped in Merryland at 20 rounds.”
You can get them up here in PA and take them back. They’re legal to own, but not to buy in MD or have shipped-instate. I just sold 10 of my large 40rnd US Mil-spec collection to a former MSP Capt, and we’re meeting up here on Wed, to do the sale. Perfectly legal.
I also just sold my 100rnd Beta Drum mag; never jammed but it was too heavy & clumsy on a Class III Tactical AR-15 w/ suppressor and short barrel.
Mainly cause I have always liked having a thumb safety. I know it’s probably nit-picky, but hey, it’s what I’m comfortable with.
I was going to suggest the 4” XD, but I have no personal experience with it so I felt I couldn’t comment.

I think “IDPA” and “somewhat concealable” are mutually exclusive. I think you’re talking full size. I’m a Glock man because of reliability so I won’t beat that dead horse. For a full size 9mm there’s some at my range that swear on the CZ-75.
