Russell Simmons' Hypocritical NRA Slam
Big Hollywood ^ | July 28, 2012 | Harold Hutchison

Posted on 07/28/2012 12:56:51 PM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

Russell Simmons recently unleashed a broadside against the NRA in the wake of the tragic Aurora shooting.

In that tirade, Simmons went full-bore against the Second Amendment:

“[T]he NRA has been successful at blocking attempts to pass reasonable legislation that would require background checks at gun-shows (currently there are none), as well as blocking people on the terror watch list and those who are mentally unstable from obtaining guns and putting an end to the sale of accessories like 100 round drums. They are also the group behind the "Stand Your Ground" law that George Zimmerman claims protects him from being convicted of killing Trayvon Martin. Our nation has been held hostage by 4 million people and $300 million dollars. The safety of our schools, our streets, our homes, our movie theaters, is being controlled by thosewho cling to their guns, their assault weapons and their weapons of war. They don't intimidateme, so I will speak my piece, as I am a man of peace.”

as I am a man of peace.

He can be a man of peace because rough men stand ready to do violence on his behalf. Men armed with guns.

“attempts to pass reasonable legislation “

Yes, and 1930’s Germany saw all such legislation as reasonable too.
As did communist Russia and everywhere else that mass murdering tyrants came to power.

To be clear, the “gun show loophole” has nothing to do with gun shows. If you are an FFL holder/dealer at a gun show, you still have to do background checks.

The “loop hole” is the ability to make private sales, inheritance or gifts of your personal guns without paying an FFL to to a transfer with a background check. It matters not whether you are at a gun show or in your living room.

If truthful, the Left would call it the “personal property loophole”, but that wouldn’t sell well.

You do what you want for yourself twit.

Mess with my 2nd Amendment rights and we have a conflict ahead. You people have pushed too far, and I get the feeling some of you are getting the message that dangerous times are coming if you keep it up.

Thanks for that. it is definitely worth repeating.

It should also be noted that most --if not all-- tables at gun shows are usually sponsored by FFL holders so there are very limited opportunities to buy a gun at a gunshow without a background check.

And the ATF is at most every show. If it is apparent that someone is making a business of selling “personal” weapons, then they will be in a world of hurt.

A gun show allows nothing more than can be done between any two private individuals.

Classic liberal hypocrisy on stilts. Russell Simmons makes millions by producing and selling rap music that glorifies violence. He has serious security for himself, very likely armed. Lives in a ritzy neighborhood. Net worth well over 300 million. Fine.

However, he chooses to pretend that he is a self-anointed 'man of peace' being brave and bold by attacking the NRA using the Aurora, Colorado killings as his excuse for doing so and making sure he injects race into his rant. Gimme a break, Russell! Every liberal attacks the NRA at some point. Doing so is part of the liberal creed. What Simmons ignores is the fact that criminals - like the killers in Chicago that he referenced - don't obey the gun laws...ever. Also, crazies like the Aurora shooter often obey every gun law on the books - but are still crazy. Laws don't stop them or the punks on the street shooting up their neighborhoods over gang 'turf'. Simmons is just blowing smoke and using a tragedy to take a cheap shot at the NRA.

“making sure he injects race into his rant”

Someone should remind him that it is HIS RACE that is doing the overwhelming majority of the killing. He has to blame someone else, if he looks inward he will see something he doesn’t want to see looking at him.

Russell Simmons Ghetto-Thug music...which promotes violence and abuse of women (especially black)....kills more people than the NRA ever could.

Simmons needs to stop worrying about the NRA, and worry more about why blacks are always calling themselves “n—g@” and threatening to kill cops with that Rap Crap Hop music

ah yes...hypocrisy and russell simmons go hand in hand....

this self avowed “Occupy Wall Street” participant/supporter can now be found in adds all over the internet pimping the “The Rush Visacard” for one of those evil banks/corporations....

this occupier who wants social justice and wants everyone to pay their fair share made millions off a book he “wrote” called “Super Rich, a guide to having it all”....

this self admitted “man of peace” is a pioneer of hip-hop and rap music, which has been the basis for rape, shootings and killings...

F U Simmons. You and the hip hop culture you represent are doing more damage than 4 million NRA members could ever do.

I’ll support a universal gun ban when two constitutional amendments are passed: (1) a ban on private security to level the playing field between ordinary joes like myself who don’t have the money to hire their own security guards and large institutions and wealthy people, with a mandatory 10-year-prison term for any employee or employer found working as a security guard or hiring a security guard respectively, and (2) a mandatory death penalty for anyone convicted of committing a crime with a gun.

“...reasonable legislation that would require background checks...”

I would support that just as soon as we have background checks before people could exercise their Free Speech, Free Press, Freedom of Religion, etc.
