Tension over the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy reached the Sacramento region this week after 10 members of an area summer camp staff walked out in response to the firing of a gay staff member.
Local BSA officials said the young man was fired not because he is gay, but because he failed to heed repeated requests to dress appropriately for camp. Specifically at issue were his painted fingernails and earring, although one senior official said there were also complaints about his mannerisms and behavior.

On the other side, Randy Thomasson, president of the website SaveCalifornia.com, which bills itself as an advocate for traditional family values, said the Scouts had every right to dismiss Griffin.
"The Scout policy is well known," Thomasson said. "The Boy Scouts have high standards for behavior. The Boy Scouts ought to be commended for maintaining their high standards.
"This guy should not have been working there once he decided he was against their stance on sexuality," he said.
Still, the firing came as a shock to Griffin, a Vacaville native who grew up in a Scouting family.
"As I grew up in the Boy Scouts, I realized I was queer at a young age," he said.

I feel that this is the real issue we need to discuss after Penn State. When can a group fire someone for the safety of the children? Before a child is hurt, or does the group need to wait until after a situation? Shouldn’t we error on the side of protecting the children?

Here’s an idea. Put all the gay scoutmasters with all the gay scouts. There shouldn’t be anything to worry about since the gay experts assure us the gay men are not looking for gay boys.
And do the same thing for the military. If all the lesbos are together and all the gay men are together, will the experts be concerned about them having sex all the time? After all, they’re not there for sex.

We had this happen in the Scouts when I was a kid. Don’t know if the scoutmaster knew what was going on or just oblivious. 2 asst scout masters were molesting kids. We knew what was going on but had no idea of what to say to anyone. This was back in the 60s and the subject was never addressed as it is today. Different time. Woulda been easier to hide their bodies then, at any rate.
Good post. There is no reason why this weirdo can’t start his own “Gay Scout” group. This is America. I’m sure that thousands of parents would be willing to turn their blossoming young rangers into the hands of this misunderstood fellow.
This is very odd. And just how does that happen? When most boys in the scouts at a young age are interested in camping and exploring the woods this "it's all about me" guy is exploring his "sexuality"?
