Newsweek Print Edition DOA: Then End Is Coming for the MSM
The Atlantic Wire ^ | July 25, 2012 | Alexander Abad-Santos

Posted on 07/25/2012 11:05:33 AM PDT by PittsburghAfterDark

Barry Diller, the chairman of IAC/InterActiveCorp which recently acquired sole control of Newsweek, said that a plan to end its print edition is coming as soon as this fall. His comments came in IAC's quarterly earnings call and were first reported in a two-sentence story by Bloomberg News's Sarah Frier ("Newsweek, the 79-year-old magazine, will eventually transition to an online-only publication") and then in a tweet from her colleague Edmund Lee ("Barry Diller says by September-October, plan for digital only Newsweek will be announced"). The first actual quote from Diller came later in a post by Politico's Dylan Byers: "The transition will happen. The transition to online from hard print will take place. We’re examining all of our options."

I cancelled Newseek over their "We're All Socialists Now" cover.

Say what you want about Barry Diller but he does not tolerate losing money divisions regardless of history or reason. He may have questionable programming tastes but he always looks at the bottom line first and foremost.

Newsweek, you have been in a painful self-induced death spiral and I wish every one of you 99 weeks of funemployment.

I tried to find a non-Bloomberg source for this and could not.

There is a duplicate of the same topic but not the same article.

Finally, some good news.

Good riddance to the most facile and loathsome MSM publication it has ever been my displeasure to read.

The issue I saw in doctors waiting area last week was so skinny it looked like the Sri Lanka issue.

Shows you how far out of touch I've been.

I thought Newsweek went out of business several years ago.

Now they’ll be sharing the same market space with DU. And of the two, DU is more entertaining.

Shalom! Ciao! Auf wiedersehen! Sayonara! Adios!

Shmucks...

Seems they’ve already quit polling. I recall when they could always be relied upon to put out D+20 bogus polls on a regular basis. Don’t think I’ve seen one for a couple years now.

More years ago than I want to remember, Time, Newsweek, US News all had over 100 pages, heavy on the writing. Yes, there were biases but they were the weekly sources for the term papers. Last time I picked up one, there were comic books that had more pages. Had not purchased one of these mags in years, and doesn’t seem that others are, either.

In a similar vein, the Dallas Morning News called, pushing a 4-day subscription, saying how much I could save on the subscription. I told her that the DMN had absolutely nothing in it I wanted, and I was saving 100% of my subscription costs. MSM is getting desperate.

The ongoing “move to online” face-saving maneuver is indeed a clear defeat for the LeftMedia.

In the not too distant future, everything will be a “channel” on the Web and the CommieMedia will lose a substantial amount of their decades old, formidable monopoly on news filtering and propaganda.

A very positive trend in my mind.

He’s a ruthless, screaming egomaniac and was once the most hated man in Hollywood, but he knows when to cut bait.

####

I’ve long called it LeftWeak, and the only reason I know anything about it is the Commies keep sending free subscriptions to my office.

Not that I would allow my patients to be brainwashed by this trash.

Each issue upon arrival is run over by my big assed SUV, then shot with .45 ACP ammo, and burned as part of a global warming inducing, black smoke, tire fire.
