A Minnesota congressman is calling for important changes to federal firearm laws in the wake of the movie theater massacre in Colorado.
Democrat Keith Ellison says the U.S. should not just restrict assault weapons but it should also set limits on some gun clips, ammunition and body armor.
Reasonable gun controls, Ellison said. Its time.
Ellison said Tuesday that you dont need a bulletproof vest and an assault rifle to go hunting. Hes supporting laws to restrict some of the items the Colorado shooter used in his deadly rampage. .....

Pretty much open commenting at the story (alias and made up email is all it takes) - have fun
While we're at it, here is my favorite picture of Mr. Ellison from a demonstration in Washington right around the time he showed up.
Minnesota’s favorite congressman ping
Just like taxes, there is no definition of reasonable where liberals are concerned.
every infringement on the constitution is reasonable to people that want to control you
The second amendment was not intended to protect people’s right to hunt, but their right to defense of life, liberty and property. People can hunt with arrows and knives. We need guns to ward off criminals and tyrants.
I call for a “reasonable” lobotomy and a strait jacket for Rep. Muzzie here..
He didn't have one. He had a vest with pockets.
Maybe we should ban movie theaters. After all, they have been trouble for ages.
We had to pass laws against someone yelling "Fire"! Some one could get trampled.
It was a one off case Ellison.
The only good Ellison is a handcuffed Ellison.
I haven't been following closely, is it confirmed that all he had was a tactical vest and not the armor plates that were first reported?
I support gun control too.
I control what guns I purchase and own.
You control what guns you purchase and own.
The government gets to keep the hell out of our way.
Depends on what you're hunting for.
Amen Secret Agent Man!
Here's another from the incident of Ellison cuffed and getting stuffed in the van
The only “reasonable” gun control would be keeping them out of the hands of sociopaths. I don’t think that would be possible, so I prefer gun rights because good people outnumber the bad.
What I have never understood is how these Pu**y’s get through the day handing kitchen knifes to make a dinner, load their darling baby’s in a car that can go 120 MPH, fill it with gasoline, run right at another car going 70 mph just feet away, then drop the babies off with someone they don’t even know, and guns, scare them.
Hmmphh! Go figure.
We need to ban “gun free” zones. They only leave the good people disarmed.
I’m not surprised this muzzie congress critter wants to disarm Christians and Jews.
It was a simple tactical vest.
Ban Pockets!
This Holmes Guy was a wingnut.
You could ban rocks and the SOB would have still popped.
Not to nitpick, but that is a crime just about anywhere. Under the Criminal Code of Canada, it is illegal to "produce a false alarm of fire", and that applies not just to pulling an alarm but also to shouting "fire". It involves serious jail time.
I saw a report in the National Post that said he was wearing full body armour and a tactical helmet.
I agree.
Every civilian should reasonably control their own gun. Use as prescribed - for protection.
Even if the jackass had been wearing armor, had he been hit by a couple CHL folks, he would have been rattled.
When I think “gun control” it means hitting the target and nothing else.
hey.. wait... This is not about Michele!
Good to hear, the initial armor plates that were reported would be hard to deal with
You certainly put that into perspective. The only thing you missed was the family vacation where they stuff their loved ones into an aluminum tube surrounded with kerosene.
Canada is moving toward more gun rights, but they have a bad habit on 1st amendment rights.
My point is that if someone shouts fire in a theater it is ridiculous to pass laws on theaters or speech that are draconian.
LOL, sorry I forgot the "/s" after "favorite"
She sure has gotten under old ellison and the rest of the DFL's collective skin this week though!
Any weapon used to assault someone can be called an assault weapon.
Nobody thinks a thing of it.
For all the tragedy that this jackass committed, I would suggest that the family car and pool kill way more on a yearly basis.
Should we ban them?
Maybe midnight shows should be banned.
Theaters should be limited to only 25 people at a show.
In a gun free zone, all doors should be locked when the movie starts.
No cell phones.
No children after 8pm.
Ban pockets.
I believe the company that sold it was

They are being harassed.
The Poor girls on the phone are in tears.
They did noting wrong.
I agree. IIRC your Supreme Court ruled that the “fire” scenario is not a free speech issue because it is not speech, but incitement, and incitement is an action. That goes back to our common English Common Law heritage, which to this day is a recognized part of my country’s Constitution (most of Canada’s Constitution is unwritten, based on precedent from English Common Law and the Napoleonic Civil Code).
You are right that we are improving on gun rights, but vis-a-vis 1st Amendment there is also good news:
1. We never had the bogus church/state separation, so there is not nearly as much trouble about displays of faith in the public square.
2. The worst violation of free speech, section 13 of the Human Rights Code, is in the process of being repealed.
I saw a similar report and was wondering what type of carry piece would suffice for that kind of armor. The two I came up with (and I don't know if they would succeed) was a .357 or perhaps the FN-5.7. - any thoughts?
I have been told that the shooter was only wearing a simple tactical vest (no armor) so my question above is only for education and doesn't necessarily pertain to the Colorado incident.
Quite honestly, I don’t know how this jackass got in though an emergency ESCAPE door.
They are supposed to work one way.
They provide regress but not egress.
I read a statement from the Company that sold the vest today.
That said it was NOT Body armor.
Just a tactical vest
Maybe defense free zones should be banned.
I'm sorry to hear that, you're right they did nothing wrong - they just sell sporting accessories. This has to be really hard to get over, even though they should feel no guilt.
That’s an interesting point. From the perspective of a theatre owner, I would not want anyone to gain entry that way because of the potential loss of revenue.
These idiot dems are about to learn that the 2nd Amendment is the true third rail of American politics. Saw some polls - the numbers are good (for us), with over 60% AGAINST more “reasonable” gun control...
I got that mylife, I was just posing a “what if” question of what round would best be suited if he was wearing armor (as initially reported by some)
Anything would have got his attention.
It’s like throwing a 1200 to 1500 fps brick at him.
The armor may stop penetration, but that jasper would be rattled enough to throw him of his game.
If 12 year olds are going to be taught how to put a condom on properly, they should also be taught how to safely handle a gun.
All I know is they will all still hit like bricks.
Right, the media has slowly come out with the corrections about it not being body armor.
When the initial story went out, it was used to poo poo the notion that concealed carrying audience members could have stopped/dropped him.
Also heard someone saying that the only use for armor piercing bullets is to shoot cops. Except this guy wasn’t a cop.
Absoutley correct piytar, and I think its probably well over 60%
On a side note, I was at the local Gander Mountain on Saturday (day after) and the gun floor was packed. I talked to the guy behind the counter and he told me gun sales were way up compared to the week before and ... get this ... people were interested in, and buying up all of the lasers and tactical lights they had.
Got to love REAL Americans, when dealt with a problem like defending ourselves in a dark theater we improvise instead of crying for government to "protect us"
And then again who ever popped him first could be the next to go down, drawing attention to themselves.
But body armor won’t protect you indefinitely.
I’m curious if there was a security camera outside the theater (or indoor) at the exit. People have been sneaking into theaters for ages.
Additionally there are often security cameras on the roof pointed at the parking lots to observe those breaking into cars (since the owners are tied up for hours).
I know there was a camera on the outside.
He parked right beside the emergency door.
My “everyday” weapon comes in 9mm, I was thinking my SIG would be better than nothing in the situation but if those plates were level-4 wouldn’t a 9 just bounce off?
