This is the story of a dinner party.
It occurred in a suburban middle-class community — maybe slightly upscale middle class, but not much — just outside one of our big cities. Pretty typical place.
The guests all knew each other. They were neighbors or friends or acquaintances who’d been to these parties many times. They were white, every one, mostly businessmen and their wives, and some engineers who work or once worked in the nearby defense industries.
The postdinner conversation was the usual stuff — who’s moving in, who’s moving out. Anybody heard from Ralph since he moved to Wisconsin? Nobody had. No surprise. Ralph wouldn’t tell you if your coat was on fire.
It was about at that point, as the conversation edged warily toward the touchy subject of politics, that one fellow — a bit of a curmudgeon — asked if anybody thought President Obama had not been born in America.
You could have heard a cocktail napkin drop.
For a moment, no one said a thing. People looked at one another. Then a lady who had moved to the area from Virginia raised her hand. “I do,” she said. One by one other hands were raised until it was clear most of guests thought Obama had not been born here.
Nobody said anything. Nobody had to. The verdict was clear. But apparently not entirely clear to the questioner. He pressed on. “Does anyone think Obama’s a Muslim?” he asked.
By now it was evident the questions made some guests uncomfortable. This guy was casting a pall over our good time. But he wouldn’t quit. “Anybody think Obama’s a Muslim?” he asked. And again most of those present raised their hands.
The president, they were convinced, or said they were, is indeed a Muslim...

Good point, it was a boatload of white, gun-totin’, bible-thumpin’ racists that voted for the empty suit that stood between the fake greek columns and read stuff about hope-an-change off the teleprompter.
What I didn't like about Obama once I sensed his insincerity was that he would cause racial strife and possibly set us back as far as being able to respect a qualified black candidate. It seems I may have been right.
I also hoped that a conservative black would have the ability to make a greater percentage of the black population realize how they have been mislead by liberal political marketing and come to believe in their own self worth rather than government reliance. It now looks like that outcome will be a long time coming.

For a man who claimed he’d unite this country, he has done nothing to reach across the aisle and govern from the center. He has strictly demonized those who oppose him.
My guess is that America white, brown, black, pink, and chartreuse is uneasy with an incompetent in the WH who happens to be half black.

1) why not ask if we are “uncomfortable” with a Black man being on the Supreme Court?

Church going black voters are upset with Obama. Their ministers swore to them he was not liberal on abortion and homosexuality.
They’ve seen adamant support for Planned Parenthood (and more PP clinics moving into black neighborhoods) and the gaying of our military, Presidential championing of “Gay Pride Month”, etc.
They will support a brother but don’t want to go to Hell for one or bring damnation upon this nation.
They “cling to religion” too. It’s the entire reason he joined a “Christian” church in the first place.
I voted for Alan Keyes in the 2008 primary. I rejected Huckabee, Romney, and McCain to cast my vote for Mr. Keyes (who was still on the ballot by the Texas primary).
I actually know the answer to that question, but I can't answer it until I stop beating my wife.

I also voted for Alan Keyes in the ‘00 and ‘04 primaries. And the disastrous last term of Bush vindicated my judgment. My best recollection is that Keyes’ skin is a shade or two darker than mine. *cough*

If America would have read- or been exposed to, the things he wrote in his books, especially concerning his racism (*his* racism, not ours) & known about Frank Marshall Davis; who he was, who his mother (Stanley Ann Dunham) was, & who his grandparents were, would we have, still, elected him?
I don’t know the statistics regarding the Baby Boomer population vs the number of those who are young enough not to know about communism (What were they taught, if anything?), but I’m betting the answer to that would be No!

I think Mr Farmer went to the Stephen Glas/Jayson Blair Journolism School. I dont believe this story. It is too pat, too appropriate to his thesis. Sounds like a liberal version of a “teaching moment.”

A rather idiotic premise. It`s not a white vs. black issue, and it never was, though the libs would love to frame it that way. The real question is, “Is America comfortable with having a marxist, pro-muslim, anti-capitalist, anti-American homo lover in the White House?”

The story is an utter invention. John Farmer is a liar. The only conclusion is that the story is a fake or John Farmer’s friends are.
I wish we had 8 more on SCOTUS just like Thomas. As for his skin color or hair type, it isn’t relevant.

You’re right; it is all he has, and it worked once. We no longer have the luxury of voting for an affirmative-action novelty; can you see how black America has responded to the election of the first “black” president?
