(AK) GOP Rep. Don Young endorses Democrat in Hawaii Senate race

Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) has endorsed Rep. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) in her Senate bid, a surprising move since the seat could be in play for Republicans this fall.

Young praises Hirono for working across the aisle in the lighthearted Web ad, in which he repeatedly jokes about criticizing House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) before hugging Hirono at the end.

"While Mazie and I don't see eye to eye on everything, we've done something too many people in Washington refuse to cross the aisle and do: We've worked together," Young said in the ad, and praises Hirono for working with him to protect funding for education programs for native Alaskans and Hawaiians. "If you're looking for a United States senator who doesn't just talk about bipartisanship but actually knows how to work with Republicans and Democrats to get things done, Mazie Hirono will be that senator."

Hirono will face off against former Rep. Ed Case (D-Hawaii) in the state's Aug. 11 primary. Case, a former member of the centrist Blue Dog Democratic Coalition, has argued he'd be the more electable candidate because of his bipartisan credentials, an argument this endorsement undercuts.

Hirono has the backing of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and is favored in the primary. The winner will face former Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle (R) in the fall in a race that leans Democratic.

“What the heck is in the water in Alaska?”

I don’t know but it is obvious that “eska” had been drinking a LOT of it.

This is typical Alaska RINO behavior. Ted Stevens and Lisa’s daddy Frank Murkowski did the same thing. They will do ANYTHING to get more gubbmint $$$ for their Alaska Native constituents which is then squandered on completely un-freaking-believable pork-barrel projects. For instance, a $25,000,000 sewage treatment plant for an Arctic village with a population of 60. There was no one in the village qualified to run the plant. Thanks Uncle Ted.

Alaska sucks way more money from the Feds then all those “independent” sourdoughs will admit to, is dominated by unions and Native Corporations, and has one of the most socialistic state governments in the country. There’s a very active gang problem in Anchorage too.

There is so much corruption among the Democrats in Hawaii, led by Gov. Abercrombie, an old pinko, that Hawaii’s going to need more jails to house them all when the truth comes out.

Think what ya may, I drink the good glacial water and been on FR since 1996. You’ll sit in wonderment and cry your eyes out when another dem like Begich gets in over your simple minded criticism of Donny Young. Young is better than most of the Repubs in lower 48 and will get re-elected until he decides to retire and let one of his half breed kids take over. His kids will get support from all Alaskans too, Whites, Indians, rural, and urban Alaskans cause he’s a stand up kinda guy and people up here been watching him do his thing for many years and like his anger at the feds, unlike you all crawling under the carpet in fear.

... you wanna be conservatives.
You all ought to grow up and figure out how it works.
None of ya could ever make it in Alaska anyway, stay down there where ya all belong...

Gee, I just met you and already I don't like you for some reason.

People in ALaska, will always vote for Don Young and his kid that runs after him too.

Have fun with that. Just remember, when this tool (and other clueless GOPs) endorse Dems, they are endorsing Dem leadership in their respective houses. I'll take the wanna be conservatives over such champions of virtue any day.

She's just trying to start a fight. Could be texting from motel 6 outside of Yuma. When someone thinks only they and her kind could make it somewhere in this world in 2012 they are off their meds.

I lived in Alaska from 1976 until 2002 so I know a little about the state.

You do not know me, sir. Do not assume that all people in the Lower 48 “crawl under the carpet with fear.” If that is what you believe you are deluded. I thought that same way when I lived up there. Now that I live in a conservative state that is not controlled by unions and indian tribes I have realized the errors of my previous perceptions.

Begich got elected by foul play - same way most commiecrats get elected. Stevens gave him plenty of ammo. He got way too big for his britches. Murkowski is only in there because her daddy appointed his little princess. They both make me sick.

Don Young has done a lot of good things for Alaska. That being said, he has been in D.C. too long and it is starting to show. Being an elected representative of the people is not supposed to be a career or a family dynasty.

The reason I say allow the regaining of eligibility is so the proposal would have a ghost of a chance of being adopted. You have to give the “career politician” a reason to vote for this. I therefore allow the “career politician” to exist, but in a “controlled fashion”. My propose institutes control by forcing “interruptions” in the “politicians” career. Hopefully they go home and run for mayor, county supervisor, a statewide official, like governor basically something away from the DC area. Then could even “get a job !!!!”. I would like to ban them from from being within 100 miles of DC, but that would be impractical. The bottom line is make them go home for awhile and experience being “governed” again by DC instead of doing the governing !

“..Only a bare handful of hard-boiled DC lunatics would go Senate->House. ....”
John Quincy Adams went Presidency to the House but not immediately. I would respect something like that, shows some level of humility, something rare for the professional politician class.
