Bloomberg Suggests Police Stop Protecting People Until Gun Control Enacted

Appearing as a guest on Monday's Piers Morgan Tonight, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg recommended that America's police officers should go on strike and refuse to protect people until gun control legislation which would allegedly make them safer is enacted. Bloomberg:

(Video can be found here.)

Well, I would take it one step further. I don't understand why the police officers across this country don't stand up collectively and say we're gonna go on strike, we're not gonna protect you unless you, the public, through your legislature, do what's required to keep us safe.

Police do NOT protect people.

The courts have consistently ruled that they are not required to do that, it's not their job. They do protect cooperating witnesses.

Citizens and the Constitution suggest that individuals do a better job of protecting themselves than cops do.

Cops mop up and do paperwork.

How about the NUC taxpayers? Let’s see them go on strike. We all admire sooo much folks who hide behind the unions and stay home with pay.

If the police went on strike and stopped “protecting” people, the public would not notice a measurable difference in how well “protected” they are IMO. Remember this, when seconds count, the polce are minutes away.

Yes the police do a credible job of IDing and catching criminals; drawing chalk lines around the victims; and handing out traffic tickets but when it comes to actually protecting someone from a crime, except by having apprehended and incarcerated a serial scum bag, their marks are not so high.

I can’t believe that we put people like this in elective office to oversee our well-being. What a crazy and dangerous POS this guy is. Next, he’ll be calling to ‘collectivize’ our military.

For the most part, the police don't prevent crimes...they get involved after a crime has been committed.

People that carry prevent crimes.

Another tyrant trying to look like the good guy. Bloomberg has gone off the farm and thinks the people are his to control.

Someone needs to put this dope out to pasture.

I have no problem with that. They don’t really protect anyway. They just try to find out who “did it” to you. It is your job to keep them from “doing it” to you

If they did that, the crime rate would go down.

The criminals would know that the police wouldn't be there to protect their rights.

When seconds count, police are just minutes away. Well, sometimes 30 minutes.

Yup. Police don’t stop crime. They investigate it and try to solve it. And that implies that a crime has been committed because the victim failed at protecting themself.

Crime “prevention” is the potential victim’s job.
