Rep. Rosa DeLauro: Congress Should Consider Federal Tax on Soda Pop

(CNSNews.com) – Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) said on Wednesday that Congress ought to look at imposing a federal tax on soda pop.

“We have to address the situation in the marketplace," DeLauro said at a press conference on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. "Right now, the least expensive beverages are often those with the least value to our health like regular cola or juice drinks that are only 10 percent juice.

“But I will tell you that if you’re paying $3.49 for juice and 79 cents for soda, if you are in a low-income family and you have to stretch the dollar, you don’t need a rocket scientist to tell you what you’re going to buy,” DeLauro said. “You’re going to go for the 79 cents.

"And maybe, quite frankly," she said, "one of the things that we ought to look at and one of the things we ought to consider is a soda tax.

“Maybe we ought to look at that amongst several other areas that we are looking at in terms of nutrition," she said.

"Look, the point is: This is a critical, critical issue," DeLauro said. "We need to work together. And I, really, I beg you for your energy and your interest in all of this right now.”

Congress should consider a tax on its members, since they’re the ones who vote for all the spending. And they get outrageous pensions.

DeLauro is just looking for an opportunity to raise taxes. Obesity-wise, juice = soda:
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-05-24/news/ct-met-war-on-fruit-juice-20120524_1_juice-products-association-juice-consumption-juice-industry

In response, University of North Carolina global nutrition professor Barry Popkin cited six other studies that show correlations between increased fruit juice consumption and increased risk of obesity and diabetes.

“There are no studies that show the opposite — that drinking a glass or two of fruit juice each day will have positive long-term health benefits on weight or diabetes,” added Popkin, author of “The World Is Fat: The Fads, Trends, Policies, and Products That Are Fattening the Human Race.”

TSR, you can bet your bottom dollar that every step of the soda and/or juice manufacturing process is already squeezed (taxed) to the limit.

While everyone is screaming about how heavily taxed the rich are, nobody notices how heavily taxed the rich owned manufacturing process is.

And in time, she’ll be pushing for a juice tax.

I say we all pay an extra tax to slap Rosa, Michelle, and any other politician who tries to control our lives through taxation!

Hey, this is the logical next step. Cigarettes, soda, candy, and fast food. No surprise here.

Hey, all you smoker haters, your turn will soon be coming up. Hope you enjoy what you’ve enabled, and even supported. Soon the beast will be digging into your pocketbook, then into your personal lives.

This delauro thing is one sickening puppy. I am amazaed how this pinheaded, misshapen, grotesque, mental-midget communist is able to form a sentence. People actually voted for this anti-human mess?

I think whenever someone is asked a question about supporting more gun control, one should point to this asinine commentary by one of the representatives and ask back, do you think we need less gun control because of a government run by people like this?

Tax this...tax that!

The only reason that the politicians want to tax everything to force people to follow the dictates of the “food police” is to do nothing more than raise more taxes so the government can:

Bring in more tax money for the coffers.

Expand some bureaucratic agency to enforce the new tax.

Expand control over the public.

Appease liberal women (mainly liberal women) in thinking that the government really makes them safe and saves the public from dangerous freedoms and freedom of choice.

Assures that liberal women will always vote for the Democrats who “protect” us from ourselves.

how about just making soda an ineligible purchase on food stamps and ebt cards-

a bad choice problem eliminated for 46 MILLION Americans now on food stamps. School is gonna train kids to love white skim milk, anyway (fat chance, pun intended)

Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.)

And maybe, quite frankly," she said,
"one of the things that we ought to look at and
one of the things we ought to consider is a soda tax.

"Quite frankly", I have a better idea Rep. DeLauro.
Looking at you Rosa, what I think "we ought to consider is a" ...

UGLY TAX!

You alone could fund the US Gubmint for a day with an 'Ugly Tax'.
And with an 'Ugly Tax' on all (cough) 'progressive women' combined, we could eliminate the U.S. National Debt in a year!

Congress should tax its members for blatant stupidity. The Treasury would rake in millions from the 535 idiots that roam the Capitol halls. Make sure the law includes the congressional staffs and all executive departments and agencies.

So she is essentially calling for a tax on lower income people.

You and I did what we could to prevent Rosa from being elected.

She's probably just trying to raise revenue to fund her national diapercare scheme.

The GOP is sort of in control in the House. Can't the GOP at least adopt a House rule to require the wicked witch of New Haven to wear a burka whenever she appears in public? Or at least a bag over her head?
