NJ Sen. Lautenberg Planning to Reintroduce Gun Control Legislation In Wake Of Colorado Shooting by Josh Feldman | 10:21 pm, July 20th, 2012 » 169 comments

Despite all of the calls not to politicize the Colorado shootings last night, gun control advocates have been demanding that politicians use it as an opportunity to take action on national gun laws. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence said earlier that they “don’t want sympathy” from President Obama and Mitt Romney, they “want action.” It is with all of this in mind that New Jersey senator Frank Lautenberg is planning on reintroducing gun control legislation on the Senate floor to limit high-capacity magazines.

According to The Huffington Post, Lautenberg brought similar legislation to the floor following last year’s shooting in Arizona involving former congresswoman Gabby Giffords. At the time, Lautenberg said that “the only reason to have 33 bullets loaded in a handgun is to kill a lot of people very quickly” and pledged that he would introduce legislation to ban high-capacity ammunition clips.

Lautenburg’s office sent this statement to the Post earlier today:

Lautenberg, Schumer, McCarthy and the whole neo-Nazi anti-gun cult need to be stripped of their citizenship as traitors and shipped one-way to North Korea. That way they get the best of all their worlds - an anti-gun country where they can worship their dear commie leader.

I think the real reason OWS Democrat James Holmes (D-Aurora) killed all those people in the theatre was Obama had a bad week in the polls. Everything they tried failed. Fast and Furious turned out to be a fiasco. They spent $100 million in advertising to destroy Romney, and now he's in the lead. I think Democrat James Holmes' (D-Aurora) shooting spree was a Hail-Mary attempt by the Obama campaign to get back into the race.

Yeah, it's totally ridiculous, and probably tasteless. However, it IS a serious charge, and, as we've seen with Democrats over the years, it is NOT the nature of the evidence, but the seriousness of the charge. We MUST investigate this.

Personally think we may need PhD control legislation. Why the heck are our universities giving these crazies so much information ? What if this nut was a nuclear researcher or bio weapon researcher ?

Notice the frequent reminders of the massacre at Columbine High School. The other commonality is that in both cases, bombs and/or destructive devices were left behind as part of the plan and in both cases the media focused on refining laws that prohibited possession of firearms and paid no attention to laws prohibiting destructive devices.

"Never waste a good crises."

They never miss an opportunity to oppress us.

They sell thousands of high powered weapons to Mexican drug lords, and it's OK. Hundreds of people are dead. No problem. One nut case opens fire with a handful of weapons, and our right to defend ourselves must go? It doesn't make sense.

Why not go the other way, and allow everyone their right to be armed? That way, we can defend ourselves not only from single nut cases, but we can defend ourselves from the drug lords and their new Oboma weapons as well.

The answer isn't to make us sitting ducks. That'll cause even more deaths. The answer is to give us the tools to stop these nut cases and Oboma drug lords before they kill us!

The big reason why the Dems have been largely ignoring gun control as an issue is that it cost Al Gore WV and TN in 2000, and this the election.

If the Dems want to run with this they can bring it. Obama will lose VA and NC, and have a much tougher battle to win OH.

I think they just let their actvist auxillaries (Brady Campaign) and secure officials (Crypt Keeper, D-NJ) make some noise right now to placate the Lib extremists, then forget the whole thing within a few weeks. Just like they did with the Giffords shooting.

Why do these guys stay in those jobs till they die? For crying out loud, the last thing I want to be doing at 88 years of age is being responsbile for US Senate responsibilities. Heck, it’s in both parties. Thurmond was over a 100 and still there!

The liberal gun grabbers are out in FULL force now on Twitter. Check out their anti-gun rants and how they blame lack of gun control on the shooting. Sickening! We need to supply them with facts.

Exactly, any congressman or senator can introduce a bill regarding anything, it means nothing. Dozens of bills are introduced every day, and the vast majority never even get put on the calendar for hearing. And even if by some miracle Lautenberg ever got his bill passed in the senate, it would never even be put on the calender to be voted on by the Republican house.

You notice though that the democrat leadership is silent on all this. I imagine Obama's folks are quietly telling democrats to shut up about gun control only three months before a major election (probably by promising he'll jump on the bandwagon if he wins reelection), they remember 1994 just like we do, and the last thing they want is to get the NRA folks all riled up right before an election. They've spent the last ten years trying to lull gun owners into a sense of security by pretending to be pro gun or at least neutral on the gun issue.
