113,000 tons of “cargo”?

Hehehe.... Well, I guess warbirds and ordinance could be construed as cargo. Cargo is delivered after all.

I imagine the Ike is there in case the Iranians do anything foolish like try to close the Gulf.

Why would we want to box up a carrier in a canal?

Maybe “flexibility” or worse, outright sacrifice?

Shotset distance between two points?

Plus, it’s not like it doesn’t have protection. And I seriously doubt the muzzies running the canal would want to have it blocked by a carrier, not to mention the impact of a seriously pissed off US Navy in the area.

Stay tuned for the video at 6:00 PM showing Obama personally piloting the ship through the narrow and tricky canal.

Awww, thanks for the picture...I haven’t seen old Ike since it returned home from Desert Shield. My son called me on August 6, 1990 from the end of Med deployment to tell me they’d be headed home on the 7th, but something was going on, they were restricted to a 1/2 mile area if they got off the ship that night. And then on August 7, I watched on TV as they went up the Suez Canal to sit in the Red Sea for another 5 months, disappointed because the fireworks of Desert Storm hadn’t started yet. Good to see Old Ike again...she is truly beautiful and aged well.

Whoops. Thanks. But my fat fingers were screwing up on me anyway, so I’m not surprised.
