Obama's Communist Mentor Accuracy in Media has an in-depth profile of a leftist who influenced Obama during his high school years. In an article entitled, "Obama's Communist Mentor," Cliff Kincaid identifies a member of the Communist Party USA, who has been influential in Obama's life and education, Frank Marshall Davis, who was a communist -- and born in Kansas.

Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his "poetry" and getting advice on his career path. But Obama, in his book, "Dreams From My Father," refers to him repeatedly as just "Frank." Frank is the black communist writer now considered by some to be in the same category of prominence as Maya Angelou and Alice Walker.

I just mentioned Joel Gilbert’s new film “Dreams From My Real Father” in another thread. I don’t believe all of the puzzle pieces fit exactly as Gilbert put them together, but anyone who wants to know more about FMD ought to watch it...and then get others who haven’t been following this case to watch it.

Which is to say "manufactured prominence". You'd never have heard of either poetess based on the merits of their work. They stink and are pseudo-intellectual. The reason you even know of them is because of the content of their poetry/writings.

White guilt brought them to prominence. They speak the Left's language.

Frank Marshall Davis was certainly no Shakespeare, nor even a Walt Whitman (although Whitman was likely a bisexual, and definitely anti-Christian, and a political radical, just like Davis). If Davis was not the President's father, the fact is that he was a good friend of Stanley Dunham, Obama's maternal grandfather and a possible Communist. Davis was in Hawaii at a critical time in the President's boyhood, his teen years. Like Davis, the Dunhams were Kansans who rejected their mid-American roots and Christian upbringing (Baptist and Methodist) for the fantasies of Marxist and progressive utopianism. They left Kansas for the West Coast (Puget Sound area of Washington and Hawaii) and associated with leftist circles in both states.

Both Stanley Ann Dunham and Barack Obama were "red diaper babies", not from the stereotypical background of such families, usually based in the New York area and often of Jewish background, but apostate from Judaism. However, there is, or was, an element of native-born Americam radicalism in the Midwest and West, as evidenced by the IWW movement in the early 1900s, a precursor to the Communist Party USA. The Socialist and Progressive Parties received a substantial vote total before the Red Scare of 1919 and crackdowns on native-born radicals. I suspect research of the deep backgrounds of Frank Marshall Davis and the Dunhams would reveal family ties to the radical movements of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. One hint is that Stanley Dunham's father was named Ralph Waldo Emerson Dunham, after the transcendentalist poet, an odd name for a Kansas Baptist in the immediate post-frontier era.
