His failure wasn’t the result of a mistake...
Well, Edison is different. He had tremendous faith in the brilliant genius of Tesla. So he knew that if he just kept at it, he could find a way to make the ideas he stole from Tesla into workable inventions.
That's why he famously said that "genius is 1% inspiration, 99% persperation." Stealing the ideas - that was easy. Making them work, now, that was hard.
Well, hard for his workers. Why, he had to keep them up all night, night after night! Do you have any idea what that did to Edison's digestion?
Telsa had it easy - he could run endurance tests by calculating the mathematics of wear and tear in his mind by imagining virtual scenarios of operating equipment. Where's the work in that? Bunch of navel gazing. But Edison had to pay salaries!
Of course, he paid with the money that would have gone to Tesla, but if you're so stupid as to not make friends with JP Morgan before you go off inventing things, well, it's your own damn fault, right?
