Rick Santorum will appear Saturday at an event for presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, according to a Romney campaign official.

The event, a campaign office opening outside of Pittsburgh, marks the first time Santorum will officially campaign for his former Republican primary foe...

I know he won’t, but wish he’d come to CA so I can see him. I love Rick.

All Santorum would bring to the table is electoral votes in the general election.

But even that is a stretch, he couldn't even retain his seat in PA.
Rob Portman may be a more viable selection.
Marco Rubio, even more so.

Gingrich made Romney’s nomination far more easy by continuing to go on rather than concede and help Santorum with a clear majority keep going.

“I just can’t believe only a small number of patiots on Free Republic think Romney is a disasterous candidate while the other lap up his ever word like he is their pet or something. It is rather repulsive.”

I don’t view him as a pet, but on the other hand, I really have learned better with time not to “like” political candidates, as nice as they may seem, they all have their share of dirt on them, get them in, get them out. That’s all I can say here. Romney isn’t great, but then again, none of his contenders were all that great either. A shame Jindal or West wasn’t up there, because either of them would get a vote from me if they were an option.

Wow, so essentially Santorum did a flip-flop on what he thought of Romney, if only this article were better known...

I disagree. Rick is now dealing in reality. He like me thinks Mitt is far superior to Obama. Most of us here did not support Mitt and he was probably far down on the list of preferred candidates. Those days have come and gone and it is now down to Mitt or Obama.

He should storm the convention and demand the nomination.

Based on what, it's his birthright?

See this post I made in June 2011 in which I pointed out that Santorum had entered the race to be Romney's VP. Santorum is a socialist and the RINO establishment was going through the charades.

They had already chosen Romney as their leader. Notice that the GOP elites were hostile to anyone they perceived as a threat (e.g.: Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich and even Ron Paul) but there were no attacks on Santorum. Santorum is a Karl Rove Republican and a socialist. He is a supporter of Arlen Specter.

The GOP elites would rather have a Democrat in power than a Tea Party candidate. That is why the Republican establishment has opposed the Tea Party in elections.

Those in power always results others seeking their power and party hierarchies are comprised of those in power, the power that comes from winning elections.

If the Tea Party continues as it has, it won’t be too long before the are the GOP “elites.”

This election will help continue that process.

Gingrich made Romney’s nomination far more easy by continuing to go on rather than concede and help Santorum with a clear majority keep going.

It was Santorum's plan to split the conservative vote and then quit after South Carolina or Florida. The only reason he stayed on was that Ron Paul continued to stay on and his plans were upset.

You clearly do not understand politics if you think that Santorum is not part of the Karl Rove group. This group really panicked when it seemed that Herman Cain would win the nomination and the presidency. That is why they went after him. The Karl Rove group would rather have one of their Democrat friends as President than someone who is a fiscal conservative.

You are so correct - and sadly, many FReepers who decry the GOP-e never get involved in their own STATE GOP activities, elections, meetings - there are a great many that 'conservatives' know absolutely nothing about.

BLUNTLY put - many 'conservatives' have never darkened the door of their own DISTRICT GOP meetings. They take place every month - votes take place - people climb the ladder within the GOP at local, district and county levels. People here that ignore that, and then decry the GOP-e, don't have a leg to stand on.

The national committee is made up of only three people from each state, the state chairman, the state committee man and the state committee woman. Who here can name them?

Karl Rove group

Yes, with the help of Fox News and of course Ann Coulter and the like.
They basically did to the conservatives what the lib media does to everyone.
They did their best to smeer anyone who got in Romney’s way. When, as you said, Cain was a real threat they all had that MBNBC sick look like when Kerry lost to Bush.
As soon as Romney was in they were happy and all was right with their little world.
A couple a month a when Rubio was pandering to illegals that I belive was the signal he is the VP nom.
The Rove group is pro amnesty through and through.
2012 and beyond is not going to be the new era of conservatism.
Any simularities will be happenstance.
Welcome to squishy rino/moderate land.

Thanks for your reply and excellent points.

And thanks for overlooking my typo, which of course should have read:

“Those in power always *resent* others seeking their power...

The natural conclusion of your position here is that conservative voters are dupes or stupid.

I disagree on both.

Santorum won more states than any other person.

I think your statement is incorrect

First place finishes by popular vote:

Romney=Orange; Santorum=Green

Also, looking at national totals, I believe Santorum lost the popular vote by more than two-to-one.

Candidate Home State Caucus Result Primary Vote Delegates
Mitt Romney Massachusetts 146,247 33.2% 9,540,863 51.89% 1,277 49.7%
Rick Santorum Virginia 130,450 29.6% 3,788,801 20.61% 255 9.9%
Newt Gingrich Virginia 51,857 11.8% 2,672,323 14.53% 148 5.8%
Ron Paul Texas 89,109 20.2% 1,963,481 10.68% 101 3.9%
Jon Huntsman, Jr. Utah 823 0.2% 83,942 0.46% 2 0.1%
Michele Bachmann Minnesota 6,090 1.4% 35,311 0.19% 2 0.1%
Uncommitted - 2,218 0.5% 179,577 0.98% 0 0.0%
Rick Perry Texas 12,646 2.9% 42,243 0.23% 0 0.0%
