PPP's first poll of the Texas Senate runoff finds Ted Cruz with a surprising 49-44 lead and a much more enthusiastic cadre of supporters than former front runner David Dewhurst.
Cruz's lead expands to a whooping 59-36 margin over Dewhurst among voters who describe themselves as 'very excited' about voting in the election. The lower turnout is, the better Cruz's chances will be. Dewhurst leads 51-43 with 'somewhat excited' voters and 50-36 with those who say they are 'not that excited.' The big question is whether those less enthused folks will actually bother to turn out or not.
This race is one of the most stark examples of the Tea Party movement propelling a candidate that we've seen to date. 40% of voters identify themselves as members of that movement and Cruz has a 71-26 advantage with them. Dewhurst leads 57-34 with non-Tea Partiers, and they are 50% of the electorate, but it's not nearly enough to drown out Cruz's advantage with that group.

I think it’s time for Dewhurst to step aside, for the good of the party. We need to speak with one voice.
But moderates like Dewhurst and even some democrats, I think I hurt myself laughing.
I received a push-poll from Dewhurst earlier. It started out with a question “do you think China should have sovereignty over US business interests”.. then ..”Ted Cruz represented a Chinese firm... “ I don’t think I’ve received a push poll so dishonest before. I hung up at the second question.

Dewhurst is probably the most powerful politician in Texas so if this is true, it’s great news for Ted!
I hung up before they got “this is David Dewhurst” out.
I would have probably stayed on the line to try to shame the caller for their dishonesty. Then again, I don’t answer the phone unless I know who is calling.
I am getting so, so, so many telemarketers and politicians, I usually hang up after a few seconds. Even with the do not call list, it is 3-4 calls per night. Now, it is even on my cell phone. From Peggy at some bogus credit card company (OK, not Peggy, but some cardholder services crap) to the NRA to the Metropolitan Opera (who my wife is crazy enough to keep pledging too) it is driving me absolutely nuts. The only reason I don’t go 100% wireless is the alarm and my grandparents and in-laws only know our home number and can’t be trusted to remember another.

Oh, it’s you again. Of course we’re all allowed to say whatever we want within reason. But I would think the Dewhurst posters would be getting too depressed by the direction things are moving to still have the motivation to continue their campaign of anti-Cruz postings.
Depressed? Not at all. Lt. Governor Dewhurst has the firm support of all true Texas conservatives, as well as Texas conservative organizations, and Dewhurst will win the primary.
It’s just the outside lobbying interests like Club For Growth that have people like you fooled.
By the way, check my posts, the vast majority of them are the positive and true conservative record of Dewhurst. Only after the continued attack ads and lies about Dewhurst by the Cruz campaigners on this forum have I mentioned the Cruz negatives.
You know this is the truth, the Cruz campaign has been a Romney-type attack campaign against a proven conservative from the get-go, and because negative campaigns of distortion and attack ads have been proven to work, any candidate that is attacked in this way must respond with the truth about his opponent.
