Mayor Bloomberg Proposes 300-Square-Foot 'Micro' Apartments For New York City Singles

Bloomberg is currently accepting proposals for the apartments, which will be located on E 27th Street and First Avenue in Kips Bay. The apartments would help young professionals find appropriate housing in the city while they start their careers.

The craziest thing about these 300-square-foot apartments (which are about the size of half a subway car) is that they will cost around $2,000 a month to rent.

Under current zoning laws, all apartments must be at least 400 square feet, but Bloomberg said he plans to change the zoning laws to make the new micro-units legal.

An apartment the size of two parking spaces or half a subway car? - overpriced to begin with at $2000 a month rent in one of the most expensive cities to live in America? That's what New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg wants - to force young New Yorkers to live in a tiny, cramped apartment.

ApartmentCare from liberals! Think about the irony of this proposal for "micro apartment" in New York City while Hiz Honnah lives in a palatial mansion four times their size! If this isn't Marxism, its hard to imagine what it would be.

Central planning by city bureaucrats at its finest.

Now we know why he wanted to downsize fountain drinks. The apartments aren’t big enough for anything above a 16 ouncer.

Yup. Liberals banned smoking.

Then they banned large size soft drinks.

Now they want to ban the family home - seriously!

Look at where the tyranny of good intentions is leading - to the extirpation of American freedoms and the end of the American Dream.

Does he propose limits on animal or tree growth or does he just want humans in cages?

Mayor Meathead did not say anything about “forcing” anyone into anything.

And there probably would be a demand for such housing.

Pads just for screwing.

Overnight stays by rich owners.

Places to store dope.

I lived in a studio apt in Chicago as a young man. Took the Murphy bed off the wall and had it on the living room floor. Probably not much bigger than 300 sq ft. Did have a galley kitchen though.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) – San Francisco’s smallest apartments could soon get even smaller. In a proposal before the Board of Supervisors, a developer’s group is proposing the city change its building code to make the smallest living space in an efficiency apartment 150 square feet, down from the current 220 square feet.

Hmmm ... 15 X 20 ... just about 2 jail cells.

I've always thought most city dwellers were trapped, but THIS is rediculous

Hey Bloomingidiot-—put your money where YOUR mouth is. Invest in this yourself—and show us how lucrative it is-—

You won’t, will you...because you know it’s BS.

I remember an article from the boston glove which said these singles apparments were for the alternative lifestyle set since they had no children and were only interested in random sex hookups.
