House votes 240-182 to approve rule covering healthcare repeal
The Hill ^ | 07/10/12 | Pete Kasperowicz

The House approved a rule governing debate for the Republicans' Repeal of Obamacare Act on Tuesday.

Members voted 240-182 in favor of the rule, which sets up five hours of debate that will take place Tuesday and Wednesday.

Democrats strongly oppose the bill, a sentiment reflected in the rule vote. Only four Democrats supported the rule, and every voting Republicans favored it. Democrats voting for the rule were Reps. Dan Boren (Okla.), Larry Kissell (N.C.), Mike McIntyre (N.C.) and Mike Ross (Ark.).

The vote came after a debate that seemed to raise the question of why five hours of debate is needed at all.

Democrats reiterated their arguments that the repeal bill, H.R. 6079, will go nowhere after the House, and that the House is therefore wasting its time. They also noted the repeated attempts Republicans have previously made to repeal all or part of the bill.

"Never in the history of this Congress ... has anybody voted this many times on a single issue," Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) said on the House floor. "And why? Because we don't have anything else to do."

"We're not trying to make law here, we're making political points."

But Republicans insisted that repeal is needed because people are losing access to their company-sponsored health plans as companies react to the 2010 healthcare reform law, and that the cost of that law is double what Democrats advertised two years ago. Reacting to the Supreme Court's ruling in favor of the law also seemed foremost in the minds of Republicans.

"I respect their decision, and there's nothing we can do to change that," Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) said. "ObamaCare is now the official law of the land.

"However, there is something this body can do to reverse the course and to prevent the job-destroying aspects of this bill from taking effect: a complete repeal of the bill."

Good, this provides some more ammo for those seeking to oust democrats in purple cong. districts. It won’t even be voted on in the Senate though, and that is where we really need the ammo.

U. S. House of Representatives

Thank the Republicans.

Tell the dimocrates that they are going to be unelected in November!

At least I can live with self pride.

I have NEVER voted or supported a dimocrat ever in my life and I never will.

What a bunch of thoughtless, lackluster, powerful individuals without an ability to put together an individual thought even if self preservation was at stake.

Drones leading drones over the cliff.

Rather than vote on a bill the senate as constituted won’t ever take up, why not attach it as a rider to a bill the rats want and say this far, no more. Like maybe the next credick limit increase?

In my opinion why they have offered up the bill to defeat ObamaCare is to make sure that those that voted nay might lose any chance of being reelected. That is the only purpose I can see since it will never be put on the floor in the Senate and we know where the communists black leader King Obama stands.

Strategy to repeal ObamaCare:

1) House passes a bill to repeal ObamaCare; Senate rejects it.

2) House passes a bill to repeal the individual mandate. The Senate passes it, because it only takes 51 votes in the Senate since the individual mandate was passed under “budget reconciliation,” and therefore cannot be filibustered. Obama vetoes it—he has no real choice.

3) House passes a bill that declares that the individual mandate is not a tax, that denies the Federal Courts jurisdiction to hear challenges to the new law, and that declares that if the courts rule that it is still a tax as a matter of Constitutional law in spite of the new law, then the mandate penalty/tax cannot be enforced.

Now the President and his party are forced to make an impossible choice: They either must acknowledge it’s a tax in a way that is political poison, or they must pass a law that effectively nullifies the Roberts ruling.

Tell the dimocrates that they are going to be unelected in November!

Explain the horrific new taxes, the Death Panels, and the total loss of Freedom of Personal Chose under this horrific law that adds 16,000 new IRS Agents to terrorize US and NOT ONE FREAKIN NEW DOCTOR OR NURSE!! and tell me why it is even allowed! THE DEMORATS WANT TOTAL CONTROL OF AMERICA AND THE END OF AMERICA AND HER FREEDOMS FOR ALL!!
We could easily cover every High Risk Citizen under High Risk pools as with Car Insurance, and those that can’t afford Insurance with State subsidized coverage much more cheaply and cost effectively without destroying Our Wonderful and Worldrenowned Healthcare System!

Strictly symbolic, otherwise a meaningless gesture. Too little, too late.

Bingo! But that wasn't the point of Obamacare, the point was a massive power grab by the feds to control nearly every aspect of peoples lives. Leftists love power, and that is all they love.

How they vote is what we call “information”

And facts that can be used in the upcoming election.

Yes, Louise, this is politics, and this is what politics is FOR - to let citizens make informed decisions about how they want to be governed.
