The Justice Department on Monday unsealed an indictment charging five individuals allegedly involved in Border Patrol agent Brian Terry's death, and announced a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to the arrest of those suspects still at large.
For the first time, federal officials also revealed that Terry and an elite squad of federal agents initially fired bean bags -- not bullets -- at a heavily armed drug cartel crew in the mountains south of Tucson in December 2010. During the exchange, Terry was shot and killed.
The announcement comes amid an intensifying debate over the department's failed Fast and Furious anti-gunrunning operation. Weapons from that program were found at Terry's murder scene -- Republicans seeking documents pertaining to Fast and Furious last month escalated their probe by voting to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress.
Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, praised the department Monday for its announcement but questioned the timing.

Let me get this straight, SWAT teams can barge into any American’s home with full automatic weapons but federal agents get to fire bean bags at foreign invaders.
5 Mexican cartel members?
In absentia?

BEAN.
FRACKING.
BAGS.
Words fail me.
Hey, let’s give the Secret Service bean-bag guns and see how long THAT BS lasts...
.
If that's not the most stupid rule of engagement that I've ever heard of, I don't know what is. Lord have mercy! Who's running this outfit, a passel of idiots? er, nevermind.
Bean bags... Bean bags... They’re limited in their rules of engagement to bean bags, one must assume.
Because nobody sane whould engage “heavily armed drug cartel” guys with bean bags for any other reason.
To set people up — border agents, American military personnel in far-away arm-pit hell holes — with such ROIs is simply criminal idealism, out of all touch with anything like Practical Reality.
Bean bags...
Stunning stupidity that gets the Good Guys killed.
EXACTLY!!!!
vaudine
I been telling you this guy is a dunce ~ people who imagine he's smart have personal issues I'm not going to discuss in public.
Those that ordered the use of “bean bags” should also be charged.
OK, add another subpoena to get the the documents ordering them to use beanbags, too!
“...people who imagine he’s smart have personal issues I’m not going to discuss in public.”
*snort*
When a child shots someone with a gun aren’t the parents sometimes charged with a crime? Because if the child had not had access to the gun the shooting would have never happened.
Shouldn’t holder and obozo be held responsible because THEY supplied the guns to the mexicans?
I heard obozo wanted to put bushes name on the list, everything else is bushes fault.
They’ll be looking for the real killers as long as OJ is. This is just a diversion.
This is to protect Holder. Send him to the slammer now! Maybe he will turn against Obama and we will get the true head of the snake.
I have to wonder why an agent would go up against armed insurgents knowing he only had bean bag ammunition...Perhaps the agents didn’t know their ammo was of the bean bag type (if at all possible)...
Psssst! Arrest Eric Holder. Now, uh, where’s my million bucks?
