Madonna’s Russian Revolution: Her “Freedom Fight” Against Anti-Gay Law
The Daily Beast ^ | July 5 2012 | Anna Nemtsova

St. Petersburg just passed a law banning gay "propaganda," but Madonna’s not canceling her upcoming show there—she's promised to use the opportunity to raise hell instead. By Anna Nemtsova

he authors of a Russian law banning the promotion of homosexuality to minors has drawn a good deal of criticism from gay rights groups worldwide. But they face their biggest challenge this summer. A few weeks from now Madonna is scheduled to play the Sports Complex stage in St. Petersburg, the city where the law was enacted.

Madonna has hinted strongly she will speak out in protest, if not flaunt the law itself. Russia’s already tattered civil-rights reputation could hardly be helped by castigation from the top-selling female recording artist of all time.

The city’s legislators have expressed concerns about the possibility of Madonna—who famously kissed Britney Spears on national television in 2003—of getting undressed, or worse, saying something in defense of Russian gay rights before an audience of possible minors. Disrobing, depending on how it is done, apparently might be construed as a promotion of gay sex.

The author of the law banning the dissemination of information on homo-, bi- and transsexuality, Vitaly Milonov, has not decided whether he will personally attend the concert to see if Madonna breaks it. “I heard at the concerts on this tour she pulled off her tights, and we will not have that here,” Milonov told the Russian news agency Interfax. “We warn the organizers of the concert so that everything goes well. Otherwise they will face the harsh laws of St. Petersburg.”

So Madonna has to go and set them straight regarding the global spread of US and Western values. We are in great shape here....NOT.

Imus’s sidekick (a very funny guy) once summed up “Madonna” perfectly when he labeled her “a walking yeast infection”.

When it comes to gay “rights,” Putin’s view are more closely aligned with those of our founding Fathers than Obama’s or Romney’s.

Madonna, word of advice, don’t mess with the Russians! These are the people that systematically starved their own people.

You said it, and that’s a very sad commentary on where we no stand. It is getting embarrassing and infuriating that the Russians in this case look noble and concerned with protecting minors, while we (as represented by Madonna) look like goony ageing hooligans out to throw a sick global party.

It is getting embarrassing and infuriating that the Russians in this case look noble and concerned with protecting minors . . .

In comparison with the people running the USA right now, even Islamic terrorists look that way.

Russia is much more reality-based when it comes to morality, while we are way, way out in left field now. Under Putin the Duma is now considering a federal law that would make any public support of homosexuality illegal across the nation. Of course we and Europe cry foul via UN Human Rights rules...

She is an entertainer, not a diplomat. There is no diplomatic immunity for her, unless some nation has designated her an actual diplomat.

She can “protest” by not going there.
If she breaks their law, she is subject to their penalties.

Actions do have consequences, sometimes...

I really don’t care what she does, although the thought of her spending time in a Russian jail is vastly more amusing to me than her typical “entertainment” efforts.

If she is (rightly) arrested and jailed, there will be a huge, silly outcry from millions of American and European fans, and the UN will get involved. We will have to see the whole silly thing on the news day and night. She believes she is immune, and she is probably right.

From an article today, about Putin's problems with Gay Pride:------------------- “Virgin Mary, Mother of God, put Putin away! Рut Putin away! Put Putin away!” The shining bronze-plated walls inside Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour echoed with the raised voices of an acapelo choir of strident female voices on February 21 this year, suddenly and unexpectedly shattering the silence. The anonymous feminist punk band Pussy Riot had begun an impromptu performance of their protest song ‘Holy Shit!’ “Black robe, golden epaulettes All parishioners crawl to bow The phantom of liberty is in heaven Gay-pride sent to Siberia in chains!” Members of the group dressed in brightly-coloured slinky dresses danced wildly in front of the cathedral’s atlar, their faces masked in balaclavas, prostrating themselves and making the sign of the cross, running away and changing positions as church vergers approached and tried to prevent the performance." http://www.counterpunch.org/2012/07/06/putins-pussy-problem/

The US State Department is also pressuring St. Petersburg to remove the law, and to allow homosexual literature to be distributed to minors.

Madonna had better hope that they don’t pass an Anti-Slut Law.

Madonna would be better advised to go back to her youthful role in stirring up heterosexual lust. She has gradually lost her way in trying to find new ways to seem on some sort of "cutting edge." She is more a sad figure in this, than a serious spokeswoman for anything.

That said, Russia is to be commended for not falling down the rabbit hole with Alice & much of the Western political leadership. The lunacy surrounding the implementation of calls for the obvious oxymoron, "same sex marriage," makes one embarrassed to even be alive in this century. The advocates of such idiocy make the flat earth crowd of Galileo's day look like scientific geniuses.

For other examples of A Spreading Contagion.

Cheers!

Thanks for that link: Very good writing on this subject:

“In this sense, the acceptance of even a debate over “same sex marriage,” an obvious oxymoron denying the whole functional reason for marriage, on top of three generations of ever easier divorce; of subsidies for out-of-wedlock births, and other egalitarian efforts to equate different behavioral choices, that simply do not equate, without even focusing on that functional purpose; is itself an acceptance of an abandonment of the moral premises that formerly guided all civilized peoples.

Even where homosexuality was rampant, or the fantasy that Government could make all folk equal, most prevalent; no one actually proposed anything so ludicrous as “same sex marriage.”

Thus the spreading contagion of cloud dancing in both America & Western Europe.

People are not interchangeable; nor are their measures & behavior!”
