As a humanitarian gesture to help out the NorKs. How am I insulting the South Koreans? They eat dog all the time.

Dog is rarely eaten by South Koreans. About as often and popular as opossum is in the US.

opossum is simple one example of the garbage Americans eat. You can replace opossum with any one of the weird foods commonly found around here.
None of which has anything to do with the fact the North Korean govt is starving its people.

When the Olympics came to South Korea back in ‘88 why was the problem of eating dog all over the Western media? Were they trying to make a mountain out of a molehill at the behest of PETA?
And why did the South Korean government urge its citizens to stop eating dog and force the closure of restaurants serving it in order to avoid bad publicity?
Is it because up to 30% of South Koreans have eaten dog in their lifetime with a smaller percentage eating it regularly?
Then the whole matter was raised again in 2001 in the lead up to the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea (and Japan). Brigitte Bardot lead the charge to boycott the games there unless the South Korean government banned the sale of dog meat in restaurants. Many South Koreans thought such a boycott was unfair and out of place.
It’s pretty obvious that the percentage of South Koreans who have eaten dog or eat it regularly is much higher than Americans who eat opposum.
Hey hundreds of thousands of people have starved to death in North Korea. Lets make jokes about it and focus on other countries. Yes thats a prudent thing to do.

South Corean’s dietary choices have little to do with your condescending attitude and remarks; you just used a part of it thinking that you are oh-so-funny and clever, ha ha. You forgot to mention that we also “bury kimchee in shit” in the ground for consumption during the winter, according to some “experts” of Coreans like you. (Never mind that there were no refrigerator and we put kimchee in big clay pots and put them in the ground to keep the food fresh.)
You are perched up high and belittle the Corean people and wrap them all in your ignorant blanket by insinuating that all of them eat dogs AND you make light of this grave situation of hunger up North by your first statement. It shows ZERO concern for the starving people up there, but your whole purpose of it was to just make fun of all Coreans, ya know, the inferior people to you, of course. If possum was as popular in America as dog was in Korea, there’d be hundreds of restaurants serving it in our major cities and half the population would have tried it.

The point of using opossum is to point out that people will eat whats available. Asians typically eat things not consumed in the West. Just as people in the west eat things they wouldn’t think of in Asia.
After WWII South Korea was decimated and there was very little food. There weren’t any cows and few pigs for people to eat. What did exist was far too expensive.
I’m sure the people of North Korea would love to have a fido or two.

But I bet there have been instances in North Korea where this has possibly happened because of how dire the hunger situation is for them. I don’t want to see the North Korean people suffer from hunger or from any of the other maladies associated with collectivism that has been imposed upon them for a number of decades.
There are South Korean groups that are sending food, money and other things into the North by way of helium balloons which I fully support and hope they continue to increase. At first the balloon missions were covert and secret because the South Korean government would try to stop them to keep relations between the two countries somewhat friendly. After the NorKs destroyed the ROKS Cheonan corvette the government now fully endorses those ballooning activities.
If it was possible I would like to see a joint military airlift of food by the USA and South Korea into North Korean similar to the Berlin Airlift to East Germany from 1948 to 1949 after the Soviets started walling off East from West. If it happened I’m sure that there would be plenty of traditional Korean dishes served including dog, kimchi, and others as well as American stuff that would probably disgust them.
The whole tongue-in-cheek idea of airlifting dogs by C-17s, having them run off the cargo ramp and parachuting them into NorK-land is just a joke. You need to get a sense of humor. I’m sorry for offending you. I did not mean for it to come across that way.
All the Koreans I have ever met are good and decent people and have no animus against them. I look forward to the day when the North Korean government collapses and Koreans on both sides of the current border will be united.
