John Roberts, evil genius
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS ^ | 6/28/2012 | Robert E. Malchman

Posted on 06/28/2012 11:50:49 AM PDT by nerdgirl

Chief Justice John G. Roberts is an evil genius. The ruling to uphold the Affordable Care Act is, on its face, a win for President Obama both because the media are saying it is and because it is the signature piece of legislation of his first term. But it may turn out to be a pyrrhic victory, as Roberts accomplished numerous, subtle victories for conservative Republicans.

Obama got to Roberts. It may have been the media or it may have been blackmail. Obama’s effort was impressive.

Obama does seem adept at getting what he wants, doesn't he?

I suppose the same can be said for Ginsburg, Breyer, Sotomayor and Kagan. Conservative brilliance displayed by all!

Nice to see some checks and balances on activists like Scalia, Thomas, Alito, and Kennedy who are all obviously too stupid to play the game!

is an /s really needed?

Right with you.
baraq got to Roberts.
Since Roberts was publically threatened, you can bet that he was threatened in private.

Gangster government at it’s best.

Roberts’ conservative view of restricting federal power

Roberts' ruling today just affirmed the greatest expansion of Federal power in history. Fedzilla's power to tax is now unlimited. It can even tax you for *not* engaging in an activity.

Restricting federal power? You must be joking!

Many people are making this argument today. I find it refreshing for someone else to correctly identify it as evil, rather than heroic or saintly as I’ve heard elsewhere.

Under this ruling the dems could pass a law that anyone with a Body Mass INdex over “X” will pay three times the obamacare “tax” than someone whose BMI is under “X”. Or they could pass a law that anyone spending less than “X” on brocolli in a year will pay three times the Obamacare tax. They can regulate any behavior they want by adding a massive “tax” for those who don’t comply.

I agree with the headline, except for the “evil” part.

Roberts is a Statist and the SCOTU's version of RINO Congressional "leaders" who always cross the aisle to get snookered. Boner comes to mind.

Roberts opinions is twisted statist logic, not genius.

Roberts an evil genius? I guess a liberal would agree.

He is a traitor of the Constitution. He refused to defend it. (IMO, of course.)

Congress can pass a law requiring you to go buy an AK47 and give it to the Mexican Cartels.

Remove “genius”, and the headline gets it just about right. Bob

“Roberts did so regardless to create with the four conservative dissenters a majority view that a health insurance mandate violates the commerce clause. This result is in keeping with Roberts’ conservative view of restricting federal power and leaves him free to vote to strike down progressive federal legislation as unauthorized by the commerce clause.”

Big deal. As if the infinite extension of the commerce clause is the only thing we care about. Infinite extension of the taxing power is just as pernicious and just as wrong.

Moreover, by characterizing the individual mandate as a tax, Roberts hands Republicans a facile campaign cry that Obamacare Means New Taxes — and that Democrats are the party of taxation.

ObamaTax!

That's what it is! A tax! To get more money to buy votes and more power! Forget about "care", loving or otherwise.

They’re fretting over this issue at DailyKos:

“—the Roberts five seek to dismantle the New Deal jurisprudence. With no need to even opine on the Commerce and Necessary and Proper question, Chief Justice Roberts has written an unfathomable opinion whose motive can only be the laying of groundwork—the groundwork to undo the New Deal.”

This article is painful to read because it is in such painful denial of the end of our country.

I'm not sure I agree with this, but it's worth a read.

It's not worth a read.

The simple that is that this ruling sets a precedent that will give the government unlimited powers.

Roberts has p*ssed on the Constitution.

Roberts is an evil man.

This is ridiculous. It is not and never should be the job of the electorate to second and third guess supposedly hidden motives of the USSC Chief Justice.

If it looks like a duck (Az) and quacks like a duck (ACA) it is a duck.
