Rep. John Sullivan unexpectedly lost the GOP primary Tuesday night to U.S. Navy Reserve pilot Jim Bridenstine, a political newcomer who has tea party support.
The five-term Congressman trailed Bridenstine 46 percent to 54 percent, with 94 percent of precincts reporting at 12:30 a.m., when the Associated Press called the race. Sullivan, who was first elected to Congress in a 2002 special election, vastly outspent his challenger, the former executive director of the Tulsa Air and Space Museum.

Good riddance.
We need to watch this one...

Is he a good dancer too?
...good.
Actually it has been GOP politicians like Newt Gingrich and Lindsey Graham who have done that for almost a year now.
I volunteered for Mr. Sullivan in his first campaign. I’m sorry to learn of his personal problems, and I hope he recovers and does well in private life in the future.
Best wishes to the new candidate.
Not surprised about Graham, but Gingrich? That’s a puzzlement...
“Not surprised about Graham, but Gingrich? Thats a puzzlement...”
Same here. No sale.
Newt is very much a part of the establishment, sometimes he just pretends he’s not. Remember how he endorsed super RINO Dede Scozzafava and got real defensive when called out on it?
Is it? Why? Did Sullivan do something wrong besides being drunk? He’s got a good voting record.
The first famous boxer was a man named John Sullivan. He was KOed in his last fight, his only recorded loss.
He has not done anything worthy of praise since his resignation from the Speaker of the House of Representatives in 1998 except write novels.
Let's all congratulate the winner and wish him well in the November Election.
The question I was asking is why it it as the OP stated “great news”. I find it to be downright neutral news.
You mean the tea party isn’t dead. I’lll be darned.
Sounds like it was only a “surprise” and an “upset” to the dinosaur media. We The People are fed up regardless of what it prints.
Many democrats are taking a second look at Obama and the Tea Party and are keeping their distance from the p resident.
“Unexpected!” Mains stream media caught off guard again!? How does this keep happening? Maybe ‘unexpected’ doesn’t mean what the entire msm thinks it means?
Any time an incumbant is ousted, it is good news. Make them all know that we are coming for them and are holding all accountable.
The newbies are on probation.....
He didn’t bother to show up for 9% of the votes. Yes that is wrong.
So you support candidates because they may have the same name as a famous person?
You must be a Yankee!
I didn't say I support him AT ALL let alone "because of" his name (WTF?). Someone with your lack of reading comprehension skills shouldn't be hurling around insults, cause you're casting wherever the hell you're from in a bad light.
Why didn’t you say Eagle Scout FIRST!
Yep, Eagle Scouts seem to do well in life!
I only made it to Cub... can still do the salute, though. :)
But not always in ways we hope for:
Mike Dukakis
Marion Barry
Michael Moore
John Murtha
Dick Gephart
Wish I could have voted for Bridenstine!!
Sullivan is good on energy, but has been a real disappointment. He has not been a change agent. He was becoming a career politician.
I know John and I like him, but it was time for a change.
Sullivan acknowledged he has missed votes because of his battle with alcoholism, for which he checked himself into a rehabilitation center in 2009.
++++++++++++++++++++++++
However, he didn’t miss the votes to subsidize his friends such as Jimmy Walker, Jack Daniels, Mr. Beefeater, a Russian friend known as “Sky” and some Irishman named Guinness.
