Yes, Pennsylvania Really Is Up for Grabs (Best Reporter in Pa)

What those reports missed was that Romney pulled off a spontaneous visit to a location lacking any staged comforts.

Except for a handful of supporters who learned of the venue change, Romney was on his own: No handmade signs from devoted fans. No local elected officials to ease his transition or to crack jokes. No balloons. No perfectly timed advance movements.

It was the sort of unstructured event that causes campaign staffers to prematurely gray.

Despite a reputation for being awkward among regular folks, Romney proved to be capable of acting on the fly. He found a way to take a potential confrontation with Rendell (and a parking lot full of paid hecklers) and turn it into a sharp learning curve for himself and his staff.

In a postcard setting of the type of town that he accuses President Obama of leaving behind, Romney found a way to connect with people.

Bucks County is no sure thing for Romney. It is your classic Philadelphia “collar county” that swung to Obama in 2008 and back to Republicans in the gubernatorial, U.S. Senate and U.S. House races of 2010. It is a mix of suburban neighborhoods, rural farms and pockets of manufacturing — a haven for Philadelphians seeking a home outside the city.

Back in his campaign bus, Romney was clearly comfortable with what transpired at the Wawa.

“I love meeting people that way,” he said.

“I sat with a roundtable of small-business people from Pennsylvania earlier today and asked them to give me their perspective …

“Gov. Rendell said we could win Pennsylvania,” the Republican candidate said. “I think he is right.

“These are the voters who feel left behind, and that is why I am coming out here to get to know them."

We need to work the ground game here 110% to force Hussein to spend big bucks here to retain a state that hasn’t voted GOP since, when? 1984?

Go Pennsylvania!

None other than James Carville once said,"Pennsylvania is Philadelphia in the east, Pittsburgh in the west, and Alabama in the middle."

There are a million deer hunters in Penn. Many angry miners. And many folks who are just plain angry. I would NOT write Penn off just yet.

Pennsylvania will be a huge state in the election, perhaps THE deciding state. Romney could very well take the “T” Harrisburg and north, Scranton to Erie east to west. The problem...nand it is a big one... is Pittsburgh and Allegheny county in the sw an Philadelphia in the east.

They will go democrat, Philly and Pittsburgh overwelmingly, Allegheny county and some Pittsburgh suburbs not so much.

While the now democrat leaning state could be a toss up, I doubt thatit will go Romney. The unions, the SOP corruption in the bigger cities as well as older people who won’t change a radio station much less vote republican will give the state to Obama.

That is a shame because without PA Romney will have a very hard time electorially.

I also don’t see the democrats having to sink a lot of money here. The new republican governor is generating a lot of negatives, Senator Bob - I’m barely aware of my own existance - Casey is a shoe in, and the dead always manage to rise on election day.

The Tea Party appears to be impotent in PA. Except for a smattering of conservatives who won in primaries across the state, mostly establishment types won the right to be on the ballot in November.

I go to the Tea Party meetings in Harrisburg. There are some knowledgeable participants who can provide solid information, but as far as forming GOTV committees and sponsoring public forums to roll in new interest... zilch. They say lack of money is their biggest problem.

A LOT of things have to go right for a Republican to win PA. You need the white socially conservative union vote in the west snd then you have to find a way to run very strong in the Philly suburbs...

And it’s a lot harder with Delaware and Montgomery Counties now regularly won by Democrats.

Yes, I know. She started to get recognition for her writing for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Richard Mellon Schaiffe's "conservative" newspaper.

Problem was, for years she refused to expose the truth about the corruptocrat traitor John Murtha, wouldn't touch the story with a ten foot pole.

Good solid conservative Republicans who ran against Murtha (Diana Irey and Bill Russell) could have used her help, but she wasn't there for them.

That hardly made her the "Best Reporter in Pennsylvania", just one among many who looked the other way.

parallels to New york State here - NYC in the east/Buffalo in the west

My oldest daughter just got married last week to the proverbial central NY man. They have guns and will use them. Interesting times.

So true...Richard Mellon Schaiffe was in the tank for Murtha and Zito went along with him knowing full well what Murtha was.

Thanks for the ping.

Selena used to have a VERY small article, just a couple of paragraphs. I am glad she is getting more room to write.

Pittsburgh is in Allegheny county. The retired blue collar Dems are none too pleased with the new bunch of commies and progrssives. They won’t vote for a Republican, but they may stay home. We have the best shot since the 80’s of going Republican as a state.

Tom Smith is running for Senate. His background is in coal. If he beats the lilly livered Casey (doable) we will have TWO conservative Senators (Toomey).

Lastly, we in PA have VOTER ID in place now! That will be worth 5%.

Another excellent piece, Salena .. thank you !

The Marcellus play, et al have been the one economic bright spot out here in the T for quite a spell,
so of course the marxist maggøt and watermelon fellow travelers want to interfere as much as possible.

Given:
years of recession (many would rightly say 'depression'),
antipathy toward the energy boom,
the generalized ABØ anger seething away (often unspoken),
lingering momentum from '10,
and Voter ID being enacted,
I think PA will be instrumental in ridding our nation of the pair of traitor scum defiling OUR White House.
