And the latest Dem not attending Obama’s party is…

The DNC convention this year is going to turn out to be a serious opportunity… for ticket scalpers. The list of folks who won’t be coming from the Left side of the aisle continues to grow. We already saw US Senator Joe Manchin, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall taking a pass. We later reported that Mark Critz had … err.. scheduling conflicts. And now, long time friend of Hot Air the Lady Logician checks in from Utah and finds that the state’s only prominent, national level Democrat is otherwise occupied on the date of the big shindig.

Today’s domino….Utah Rep. Jim Matheson.

Rep. Jim Matheson (D-Utah) will skip the Democratic National Convention, making him the latest in a string of conservative Democrats to take a pass on the party confab.

All have stated pressing business back in the district and that is not completely false. Every single one is facing a challenge for their seat. Some challenges (Matheson and Manchin) are closer than others (Owens and Hochul), but the challenges are tighter than they would have normally been just because of the down economy. Couple that with the party association that they share with a President who is growing increasingly UNpopular with voters and you can see why the delegates that also have to face the voters themselves are taking a step or 5 away from the top of the ticket.

So what prompted this? A family emergency? The upcoming marriage of a family member? Apparently not.

“I’ll be spending my time this summer and fall doing my job in Congress and visiting with and listening to people in Utah,” Matheson told The Daily. “I won’t be traveling to North Carolina.”

Matheson is running in the most heavily Republican district of any Democrat in the House — the newly drawn district would have given President Obama just 41 percent of its vote in 2008. He’s routinely broken with his party, voting against their healthcare reforms as well as climate change legislation, though he’s said he’ll vote for Obama in the fall.

At this point, it’s honestly surprising that Matheson is willing to publicly admit he’ll be voting for Obama, but I suppose there are some rivers one simply can not cross. There’s something to be said for a guy who can win on a ticket in that part of Utah with a “D” behind their name, but it’s never a sure thing. And clearly he doesn’t want to be associated with the big party in September if he plans on keeping his seat.

What will this do to his fundraising? Stay tuned and we shall see.

Matheson can hide all he wants, but there is his opponent's campaign theme in nine words.

What possible legitimate excuse can Democrats have for not attending the Democrat convention?

Politicians live for this kind of thing. All the networking, schmoozing, drinking, even chasing women, opportunities, are things which happen at conventions. They don’t go there just to listen to speeches, vote for platform, and then vote automatically for Obama.

Politicians tend to schedule other things around their political conventions, not declare that the once in four year event presents them a schedule conflict. Do they expect us to believe that????

Why wouldn’t they go to his Convention, they have voted for everything he has told them to vote for. Only an idiot would believe they would not continue to do the same.

They are owned by the party, they will vote whatever way Pelosi and Reid tell them to vote. Not one of them has the balls not to.

I don’t know why we pay them to be in the Congress when only two democrats run things anyway. We could save a ton of money by closing their offices and just having an office for the Dem leader of the Senate and the Dem leader of the House. They are all in lock step.

Probably and you'll have to give up any knives and forks you're using to eat before The Anointed One appears - like the elected Latinos did at the conference last week.

There were many of these “Blue Dog”, “Conservative” Democrats hiding out in the South prior to 2010, the most prominent being John Spratt, Chairman of the House Budget Comittee, who had been in Congress for almost 30 years.

They duped their constituents into thinking they were “different” from their Liberal breathren in the Democrat party.

Their votes on Health Care exposed them. Almost all of them were swept away in 2010.

Those who remain are trying to save themselves by “opposing” Obama.

Voters need to remember that in the end, when it counts, on the most important issues, they will always support their Liberal masters.

I’ve noticed that conservative women seem to be more attractive than liberal women.

I’m sure it’s “sexist” to say anything. But, could it be that liberal females tend not to use cosmetics, or care about hairstyles or clothes? Whereas more conservative females are concerned about their appearances?

Physical beauty is only "skin deep" whereas truly ugly goes clean to the bone. True beauty is of the spirit, and lights up a physical body with a gentle glow that causes people to want to be with that person. An ugly spirit is repulsive on all levels.

Compare Mia to Rachel Maddow/Maxine Waters - almost any female lib/Dem/Representative and she blows their socks off! Funny how Republican women are often knock-outs, whereas Dem women are often unrecognizable as even being FEMALE! Add to that the obvious fact that their intelligence and intellect way outpaces the Dem model and it is almost as if Lib/Dems and Conservative/Pubs are from different planets.
