EPA blasted for requiring oil refiners to add type of fuel that's merely hypothetical

Federal regulations can be maddening, but none more so than a current one that demands oil refiners use millions of gallons of a substance, cellulosic ethanol, that does not exist.

"As ludicrous as that sounds, it's fact," says Charles Drevna, who represents refiners. "If it weren't so frustrating and infuriating, it would be comical."

And Tom Pyle of the Institute of Energy Research says, "the cellulosic biofuel program is the embodiment of government gone wild."

Refiners are at their wit's end because the government set out requirements to blend cellulosic ethanol back in 2005, assuming that someone would make it. Seven years later, no one has.

I take it EPA staff will be using it hypothetically during their commutes then.

No,no, it’s working like the EPA wants. It’s a fuel tax. You have to pay the penalty if you can’t find the fairy dust (or in this case, the cellulosic alcohol).

Hey, if it is imaginary, then there should be no problem complying. Just tell the EPA, yes we added 1,000,000 imaginary gallons of imaginary cellulosic ethanol to our mixture. Problem solved.

The EPA is strictly following the Obamanation Mantra: REGULATE, CONTROL, and DESTROY.

GOOD! It proves illegal dictates can and will be ignored.

Hey, Congress -- paying attention???

wrong end - that is what they expell when they fart....

as far as refiners getting fined for not using something that does not exist, they should send checks that are only cashable by a government agency that doesn’t exist. Or better yet in a currency that doesn’t exist.

It’s harassment, which is common from political regulators at every level of government now. The idea is to keep their opposition (non-socialists) confused, angry and/or busy with non-productive activities.

Become more self-sufficient and avoid purchasing that generates revenues. Starve the B.

Rule by bureaucrats is rule by decree. There is no “bill of rights” to protect you from them.

They have an unlimited budget and when they turn their cross-hairs on you, they can bankrupt you and there isn’t much you can do about it.

The three official branches of government have checks and balances, but EPA and some of the other bureaus have become a fourth branch unto themselves, and there aren’t any checks and balances where they are concerned. They issue rulings and enforce them and exact penalties as they see fit.

Epa needs to be shut down lock , stock and barrel.

Not that they are the only ones.
