The Obama’s Star-Studded New York Night

Tonight is the Obama campaign’s “New York Night” of star-studded fundraisers, with a much-advertised event at actress Sarah Jessica Parker’s home and a ritzy gala-concert at The Plaza Hotel featuring a performance by Mariah Carey.

Both President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will attend.

The Parker event, which is co-hosted by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, will raise an estimated $2 million for the Obama Victory Fund from ticket sales — plus millions more from an online grassroots sweepstakes, campaign officials said.

The contest was pushed heavily online, through social media and in the Obama campaign’s first national TV ad that aired on MTV during its 2012 Movie Awards.

Two lucky supporters and their guests who gave as little as $3 won tickets to attend. The campaign will release their identities later today.

They will join 50 wealthy donors who each paid $40,000 to attend the reception inside Parker’s home. The Obamas will spend close to three hours mingling at the event, according to their public schedule.

Later, the first couple will headline a 250-person gala at the Plaza Hotel on Manhattan’s East Side. Tickets were $10,000 per person, a campaign official said. Pop star Mariah Carey will entertain guests ahead of the president’s arrival.

Parker is without doubt one of the most unfortunate looking equinish profiles of “how does this horse rate so much celebrity?” I have ever seen.

Meanwhile, the PATH train has been shut down on the little people.

Did anyone hear Rush says that snotty Wintour is angling for the Court of St. James ambassadorship? That means she goes back home for a few years!

Used to be the useless dregs of society lived in the gutter of the street, now they live in penthouses or occupy the White House.

It will cost American taxpayers at least a million to send him up there.

It says he and the Wide Load will both be there. Does that mean they will travel on the same plane?

Why don’t they ride up there in one of those Two—Million dollars buses we bought and then they dissappeared.Haven’t seen those buses since he toured Iowa.

“Meanwhile the PATH train has been shut down, etc.”

I spoke with my daughter this morning - she is taking a summer French class in lower Manhattan this afternoon, and she is not happy about the Obama visit. We are hearing more grumbling as Obama continues to inconvenience NYC at his whim. Also one of my other daughter’s boyfriend is doing a summer associate/internship on Pine St. (right near Wall) and will be stuck in the gridlock as well. People MUST be getting sick of it?!?

Someone in NYC should file a class action suit against the Obama Campaign on behalf of all the commuters who lost time/money because of the shutdowns connected with Ob’s visit.
Some judge could doubtless be found who wouldn’t throw the suit out—at least, until it had garnered some publicity.

I hope the President is proven wrong in his shallow estimation of regular Americans.

A couple of years ago, I was flying into Laguardia airport, and I had checked that it's actually a straight shot from the airport, across the Williamsburg bridge to Katz's deli. But the traffic on the lower east side, due to an Obama visit screwed that up completely, and I never did get to have my Katz's pastrami sandwich during that visit!

And you probably never will get a Katz’ Deli pastrami sandwich after Bloomberg makes them illegal. Just a thought to ponder.

NYer’s never get tired, etc.

Ouch for NY - just had a liberal brother fly in from Jackson (Hole) for my daughter’s wedding - I actually made a small point that Obama is 1% as the others!! He agreed!! This is no small achievement - he is a professional engineer and as liberal and atheist as ever/ - a glimmer of hope!!

All here pray for Molly’s wedding!!! Details later.
