Egypt's highest court on Thursday declared the country's parliament invalid and cleared the way for a member of former President Hosni Mubarak's regime to run in a presidential election runoff this weekend.
The Supreme Constitutional Court ruled that parliament must be dissolved, state TV reported. An Egyptian constitutional law expert told CNN that following the court's decision, a political decision would be made about whether to dissolve parliament.
Following the ruling, Egypt's interim military rulers claimed to have full legislative control of government. Parliament had been in session for just over four months.

If parliament has provided a valid birth certificate, perhaps they’d still be in charge.
If Parliament had provided an internet image of an obviously faked birth certificate, perhaps they’d still be in charge...
Another 0bama blunder..
Yep, that ‘Arab Spring’ is really doing well.
Interesting. It would be good for all concerned, including the U.S. and Western Civilization, if this holds.
The situation in Egypt was somewhat similar to that in Turkey. Kemel Attaturk secularized the state and drove Islam into the private sphere. Whenever the Islamists got too cocky, or tried to take over the government, the Generals would step in and remove the perpetrators. Islam remained the dominant religion, but the Imams were not permitted to take over the government.
The Turkish Generals miscalculated, however, when they let an Islamist regime take power around the time of the war against Saddam Hussein. That Islamist government entrenched itself, gradually took back control of the police and the army, and succeeded in jailing those Generals who finally stepped in, too late, and tried to stop it. Turkey is now an Islamic state.
The same thing would have happened in Egypt, if the Generals there didn’t step in before the Muslim Brotherhood was allowed to gain too much dominance. Islam is very good at taking over political control, and EXTREMELY difficult to remove once in place.
It remains to be seen whether the Egyptian Generals have acted in time or not. But let us hope. Obama and Hillary and, sadly, the French will be sorely disappointed if the Generals manage to get the Brotherhood back out of power again. But the rest of the world should rejoice, and ignore the idiots in the MSM who will predictably start screaming about tyranny and violation of Egypt’s populist rights. In this case, those populist rights would turn the country over to Muslim fanatics and set the country back 1500 years, not to mention the damage to all Egypt’s neighbors.
I hope that's according to their constitution, but even if it's not, I truly hope the forces aworking gainst the Islamic fundamentalists can win out, lest that country's slide into a 7th century cesspool hit its nadir.
HF
It looks like a military coup in progress. The islamists won’t be happy. So what is the kenyan in the WH going to do now? Another round of fundraisers and golf?
I think the Generals have learned from Turkey and they’ve allowed things to deteriorate under “Parliament” enough that the common Egyptian may prefer the “good old days”. I also suspect that they’ve gotten the OK from key allies for this move. If not expect the Obama/Clinton State Department to pick the wrong side again.
Excellent summary!
I had never heard of Naguib, so I looked him up on Wikipedia:
In late 1954, however, Nasser accused Naguib of supporting the recently outlawed Muslim Brotherhood and of harbouring dictatorial ambitions. A brief power struggle broke out between Naguib and Nasser for control of the military and of Egypt. Nasser ultimately won the struggle and managed to force Naguib to resign from the presidency of Egypt in November 1954.
Egypt has been struggling to keep the Muslim Brotherhood out of power since 1954. With the Arab Spring, they seemed to have lost that struggle. But perhaps the courts are making a last ditch effort to put the military back in charge.
Martial Law? Was this in the news? I sure did not see this!
Given the trouble the groups affected are likely to cause, they’re going to need martial law.
What a great job Obama and of course that vastly skilled woman sec of state Hillary have done with the Arab Spring bringing, true democracy to the middle east!
With such great foreign policy achievements, coupled with his obvious masterful handling of the economy, and the brilliant policies outlined by Fast & Furious, immigration policy, and Obamacare at home, he surely deserves four more years.
As one of my Obama-loving so called friends said in 2008, “God he’s brilliant!” LOL!
Radical muslims are in charge of Egypt. Why would you think this is a blunder?

Huge riots starting in the mosques on Friday?
Just a guess on my part.
I think it is about the General’s self preservation. If they give the keys to the car to the Bruthas, they will eventually be driven to go to war with Israel and that is something they do not want to do.
Bush’s, Palin, and Tea Party’s fault.
Looks like Mubarak’s people have grabbed the reigns of power back from the MB.. At least temporarily. The blunder is as always, 0bama was on the wrong side of this issue and should’ve backed off.
What you see as his blunder, I see as his deliberate goal, islam ascendant.
Ramses: “Let it be written. Let it be done.”
This is a big f’ing deal. We could see a civil war in Egypt.
This is probably the best of all possible outcomes, depending on how much influence the Muslim Brotherhood and radical Islam has on the Military at point.
Should be in breaking....
Bwahahahaha! That’s funny right there.
Apparently that “Arab Spring” just ran dry.
As you said, they would still be in charge ... in America ... these days ... with an internet image and a paper copy printed off from a composite image.
Isaiah 19
It will be very temporary, unless they've used the time up to now to find out who the MB players are, so they can be rounded up and quickly "disappeared".
And Parliament has declared the High Court invalid, so they are even.
“Given the trouble the groups affected are likely to cause, theyre going to need martial law.”
Well, they should be good at dealing with plagues. They’ve had some practice!
Yes, why would a muslim president helping the Muslim Brotherhood be a blunder?
One can hope.
And now...Egypt’s military and a radical Despot will declare Egypt’s highest court invalid.
Hahaha!
Muslim Brotherhood? Come on DOWN!!
Every FReeper should read your post #6.
The Moslem Brotherhood is deep into the USA
led in by the undocumented Tyrant and his
terrorist-protecting AG supported by the
useless Congress that wallows in treason.
Want proof? Just look at the Hasan who went
from Inaugural Committee to Murdering Terrorist
to Protected Asset of the DNC/DOJ/Obama.
In that part of the world it’s damn difficult to tell the good guys from the bad guys.
Looks like many of those who run the place aren’t hot and bothered over the muslim brotherhood assuming control who preach non-stop about the Islamic caliphate and making all christians in the country pay the Jizya tax.
And now Obama declares Congress invalid...
