Florida to sue DHS in voter registration battle

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) said he will sue the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to move forward with his controversial attempt to purge the voter-rolls in his state of ineligible voters.

“I have a job to do to defend the right of legitimate voters,” Scott told Fox News on Monday. “We’ve been asking for the Department of Homeland Security’s database, SAVE, for months, and they haven’t given it to us. So this afternoon, we will be filing a lawsuit, the secretary of State of Florida, against the Department of Homeland Security to give us that database. We want to have fair, honest elections in our state and we have been put in a position that we have to sue the federal government to get this information.”

Republicans argue that state voter registration rolls are filled with noncitizens and others that are ineligible to vote. Democrats argue that the GOP is trying to strip voting rights from groups that tend to vote Democratic, and that there are only a handful of cases of voter fraud of the kind the GOP seeks to root out.

Any Florida resident that is eligible to vote that is purged from the voter rolls would have to verify their citizenship in order to be allowed to vote.

Scott is a Tea Party favorite who came into office in the 2010 wave election, but has seen his favorability rating plummet into the low 30s since taking office. The lawsuit could spark another heated election-year clash in a battleground state, similar to the Democratic attempt to recall Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) after he stripped public workers of their collective bargaining rights.

If I were a betting man, I’d bet on the Supremes coming up at the end, and going with a majority that the state is bound by it’s own rules to run their voting mechanism. If you were going to deny an American his right to vote....then the attorney general might be in the right. What the state simply said is that they have some evidence of wrongful registration, and want to clear up the matter.

I would love to see the lesbian run version of the KGB sued and lose.

DHS should be vilified as the American version of the KGB that it is. The bull dyke in chief of this criminal enterprise has declared war on us on the right and former military heroes.

It is nothing more than the gestapo arm of Obomination’s re-election committee.

Take that, Feds.

And all the Scott haters here on FR, too.

But...but...wouldn't that handicap the DNC in November?

True
“Democrats argue that the GOP is trying to strip voting rights from groups that tend to vote Democratic”
That’s also true. See above.

He should just do it. Then let the DHS sue HIM.

I would think that there is some kind of issue with DHS involved in issues pertaining to voting: I don't think they have standing [I think is the term] to bring suit.

This is great stuff, but futile in the end.

DC is the problem, never will be the solution, and the crooks from both parties that put on a big show and fight over who gets to control the money extorted from the sucker American taxpayers are evil incarnate.

Fight the good fight Rick, but it was all over but the shouting after 1865.

DHS keeps the federal records on illegals held, let loose or deported and the records on valid green card residents (non citizens but here OK and awaiting citizenship).

Florida and any state that wants to verify or purge voter status as a citizen or non citizen would need access to these records from the DHS in order to avoid criticism as being arbitrary in purging voters. The Obama feds have created a catch 22 by with holding the list and now are after Florida for trying to create a proper list of citizen voters. Of course, Omama & co. do not want proper voting this November as fake voters is the tool Democrats need to win.

“He should just do it. Then let the DHS sue HIM.”

The problem here is the DHS run by “Big Sis” controls the SAVE database and is denying Florida access to it. What is the SAVE database? It is a taxpayer funded initiative entitled "Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements". It identifies the names and addresses people that are not US citizens.

http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/privacy/privacy_pia_uscis_save.pdf

The DHS does not want Florida to identify those on its voting roles that are not US citizens.

I agree completely. The DHS and the EPA have become Obama’s “brownshirts” and are completely out of control.

"Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) said he will sue the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to move forward with his controversial attempt to purge the voter-rolls in his state of ineligible voters."

Here in the Free Republic of California we desperately need a Rick Scott to replace moonbeam Brown. Our voting regulations are designed to make it easy for non-Americans to be part of the most important foundation of our Republic - voting.

It makes me sick to know Brown and his traitorous scum Communist/Democrat Party U.S.A. are publicly flaunting their red carpet treatment of Mexicans.

It should be criminal for anyone to obstruct the voting system of any state. That includes communist Federal employees.

As the Federal government is subverting the US Constitution by interfering with the State’s right to only have qualified voters, it would seem to be the tipping point to dismantle significant portions of Federal government NOW, not a year or so but NOW and rebuild it using ONLY the mandates of the Constitution.

While George Soros, evil though he is, at least was honest enough to publicly state non-citizens should be allowed to vote in US elections because of our influence. These cockroaches in every corner of the Federal government are attempting to destroy the election process. The DOJ allows guerrilla wannabes to intimidate people at the polls and yet we allow the DOJ to exist.

How about we ask our good neighbors to the North, Canada to monitor our polling places and make sure no more guerrillas show up and only US Citizens are allowed into the polls?

DHS, DOJ, State Department, EPA, must be dismantled immediately. Department of Energy and the education department closely thereafter.

The Federal government was never intended to be this big and Thomas Jefferson not only warned us about this expansion of power but gave us the tools to stop it and the instructions for those tools.
