Jeb Bush Says Mitt Romney Should Pick Marco Rubio
ABC News ^ | June 8, 2012 | Shushannah Walshe

Posted on 06/11/2012 3:55:26 AM PDT by pistolpackinpapa

Jeb Bush gave an impassioned endorsement of fellow Floridian Marco Rubio, advising Mitt Romney to pick him as his running mate and describing him as “the most articulate conservative elected official on the scene today,” and even spoke of the “great pride” he has for the U.S. senator from his home state.

“Marco Rubio is my favorite [choice], because we have a close relationship,” the former Florida governor told Charlie Rose in an interview that aired on his PBS show Thursday evening. “I admire him greatly … He speaks with great passion about American exceptionalism. I think he would lift the spirits of the campaign and provide some energy. Governor Romney is running a very good campaign right now and closed the gap and leading in some polls, but I think this would be an added bonus.”

In the wide ranging hour long interview that aired in parts Thursday morning on CBS’ “This Morning” and then in its entirety Thursday evening on PBS, Bush said Rubio has had enough preparation to be “one heartbeat away from the presidency” despite being a first term senator.

“Look he has more experience than Barack Obama had when he ran,” Bush said. “And the practical experience — he’s certainly got the intelligent acumen and fortitude to be a good president and I have a special place in my heart for him. It’s hard to describe the pride I have for his incredible success and how he has moved in to the job of being a U.S. senator with humility, not trying to be an arrogant guy, to learn the trade if you will. And people in Washington really admire him.”

“I highly doubt that will happen, so rubio is safe to run.”

That’s not the question or answer.

Article II of the Constitution was written to protect the US from those that may not have the best interests of the US at heart. Rubio is safe????? The Founders would wonder if the Republic was safe.

I like Rubio, but he is a bit of a soft shoe, we need a warrior in this battle, we need a “Spartacus”, Allen West is Spartacus!

Now we know he shouldn't.

Glad that's settled.

Just curious when is SOCTUS going to rule on whether Obama, or Romney meets the requirements granted in the Constitution?

Everyone here claims this is a slam dunk. Well? Is it? You would think after 3 years this would have gotten on the docket, especially when the most important election in our nations history is taking place in 5 months.

“Or Romney whose father was born in another country and not a naturalized American citizen when he was born...”

This is the kind of dribble that gives the “birthers,” I prefer to call us Constitutionalists, a bad name. Romney’s father was born in Mexico to American citizen parents. That makes Mitt’s father a citizen at birth, not a Natural Born Citizen, but someone that does not need to be naturalized to be a citizen..... a born citizen.

Mitt qualifies as an NBC because he was born in the US to citizen parents. There is no need for Mitt’s parents to be NBCs for Mitt to be an NBC. Your post in this area is pure uninformed nonsense.

Note: I have not supported Romney for President. I will vote, but my vote will be against Obama, rather than for Romney. ( I understand that it will be counted the same as if I had voted for Romney...leave me to my illuslsions) My word of advice??? Get as many solid Conservatives as possible elected to the Congress to hold Romney’s feet to the fire. I do not trust the man to lead the US in any sort of a conservative manner, much less Conservative manner.

A little froggy for someone who's been here a little over a month.

Try to tone down the vulgarity, ok junior?

My, my. Aren’t we cranky bright and early this morning. Did you guys wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning or did you just not get any last night? Get rid of the tension.
Question for you:

Is Rubio eligible to be President of the United States?

Realistically, I don't think the issue will ever be resolved. As we found out during the Clinton administration a democrat can indeed be found with a dead girl or a live boy in their bed and still skate.

The establishment has too much at stake to suddenly find their conscience now.

I don't care who Rommney picks, I am not voting for him.

But as far as "qualifications" go, Rubio is as qualified as the individual that currently occupies the White House.

I think a more pertinent question is the author’s name. What the heck kind of name is “Shushannah”?. That is atrocious.

Amazing, you post democrat/media complex hit pieces on him before he wins his election and expect us all to swallow the nonsense.

It will NEVER be on the SC docket nor will it ever be fully investigated, because ...

the results could be devastating. If it were proved that the birth was outside the US, it would create a constitutional crisis. Every exec order and signed piece of legislation could be questioned. And who would be liable? The House for not challenging during the early weeks of the Admin? The Federal Election Commission for not verifying the eligibility? The Dems for not vetting their nominee?

No. Most in Washington — Dems and Pubbies — do not want an investigation. It could show up their incompetence.

The BC issue died the day Obama took the Oath of Office.

“Boy thank you for proving the birthers like you are stupid:”

Back at ya in spades.

Natural Born citizen is a matter of language not law.
Natural born citizenship was understood through the centuries in western cultures to be a person “born in a country to parents who are it’s citizens.” While all NBCs are born citizens, not all born citizens are Natural Born Citizens. Marco Rubio is one such person. NBC is a construct of language not law! “The meaning of “is” is....not a matter for legislation.....

Marco Rubio, born in the US to legally residing non citizen parents, is a born American citizen per the application of the 14th Amendment. He does not meet the definition of being a natural born citizen, which needs no action of law for a person to be.

NBC is a matter of the meaning of language, not the creation of a law.

According to Posts #6, #13 & #18, no.

I haven’t done the requisite research on him, personally. I haven’t thought much about him being “in-play” for the VP spot, but I should. I’m sure Willard’s got a “working short list” nearly finalized, and that whomever he chooses is going to be castigated by all, for one reason or another.

Boy thank you for proving the anti-birthers like you are stupid:

“1. Obama’s mother was a American Citizen and he was born in Hawaii.” You apparently have no concept of the difference between citizen and natural born citizen.

2. Mitt’s parents was both American Citizens.. The romneys say that George was born a US citizen on Mexican soil. That requires state department paper work so produce that paper work.

3. Marco Rubio was born in this country and didn’t go through a naturalization ceremony.. The Constitution says nothing about the parents when it comes to people like Marco Rubio... natural citizenship is derived from the citizenship of the father, naturalized citizenship is derived from legislation/law. Rubio’s father was a Cuban citizen at the time of Rubio’s birth making him a Cuban citizen. The fourteenth amendment makes Rubio a US citizen as of his birth. That makes Rubio a dual citizen, Cuba and the US. Rubio is not qualified for the office of President, he is not a natural born citizen.

Yes, but does Rubio have a penny in his penny loafers ?
If he doesn’t, well, he’s probably not a NBC...
