The Tampa City Council dropped plans today to appeal Florida Gov. Rick Scott's decision against banning concealed handguns in downtown Tampa during the Republican National Convention.
The council had considered taking its case to a special session of the Legislature or seeking expansion of the Secret Service's gun-free security perimeter during the convention from Aug. 27 to 30.
The agency is not expected to announce the perimeter until the beginning of July at the earliest.
State law allows gun owners to carry licensed concealed weapons outside the security perimeter.
Last month, Scott rejected Mayor Bob Buckhorn's call to block people from carrying weapons in the broader Event Zone that the city is establishing during the convention.
City Council members had considered a proposal by Councilwoman Lisa Montelione to appeal the decision. But Montelione withdrew her proposal, saying today that a special legislative session would cost too much and expanding the security perimeter would make it too difficult for protesters to express themselves.
"I don't see the point of pursuing these letters and spending any more time on it," Montelione said.
well the pubs need to be armed to keep walking guns from being fired at them..or to fend off mobs of ethnic anti christians/ peed off blacks enraged by Jesse and Al..
Is America Phoenixing ??
Makes me glad I live out in the county, not in the city of Tampa.
This will come up during local elections though. Why the heck focus on law abiding people????
Why the heck focus on law abiding people????
Because they are easy to find and control.
The criminal element are neither a threat to them nor do they [financially] support them. They are merely another tool used by them [those in power] to keep the sheep in the pasture until slaughter day.How do they use the criminal element to keep the sheep pacified? Fear of the sheep becoming prey to the criminal. [To wit] "We need more police to "protect" the sheep...er citizens from the criminals, when in actuality the police are there to control the law abiding citizen. Also, they take away or lessen the God giveen right of said citizen to protect him/her self against the actions of said criminal.
This, in essence what the Zimmerman case is about only Zimmerman killed a protected species who was in the process of taking his [Zimmerman's] life.
“State law allows”
Everytime I see this statement it makes me realize just how far we are from the Republic we should be.
This is going to put quite a crimp in OWS’s plans to spit on and harass convention attendees.
Let's keep in mind, however, that if some OWS orc gets shot during the convention, the media's going to be short-stroking it all over the front page and airwaves for the next three weeks. It won't matter if the goblins were throwing Molotov cocktails.

No, it won’t.
A properly researched, Shepardized, and illustrated article on the use of firearms in OWs confrontations should be prepared well before the event. IIRC, any bodily fluid may be considered a carrier of HIV, Hepatitis, ad nauseam.
If so, could one defend against such attacks with a firearm?
Questoins, questions - and they should all be covered before teh event.
