Anyone know why humans are split into ‘race’, and animals into ‘species’?

There are “races” of animals, like the melanistic squirrels vs grey squirrels, light-phase redtail hawks vs dark phase, tricolor blackbirds vs redwings.

Animals also have "races". They are referred to as breeds.

Races of any “species” can interbreed.
Different species, with few exceptions, cannot.

No, I sure don't. Could you please tell me?

Where there's a shell, there's a way.

25 years ago, we had Ronald Reagan, Johnny Cash, and Bob Hope.
Today we have Obama, no cash, and no hope!

If you can't appreciate the pure beauty of the violin after hearing this, something's wrong with your ears.

Or you can get raw with these strings.

How about this gamechanger from America's Got Talent (which they SHOULD have won).

Either way, the violin is sweet yet lethal.

Do it!

Mankind had other species but they died out long ago. For example there was Homo erectus and Homo neanderthalensis along with others that went extinct. Homo sapiens came to survive and dominate as the only species in the Homo genus.
