Romney's Transition Leader Favors Implementing Obamacare
Ricochet ^ | June 3, 2012 | Ben Domenech

One of the few Republicans in the country who's been tirelessly pushing for the implementation of Obamacare at the state level has been tapped to head Mitt Romney's transition team, should he become president.

Former HHS Secretary Michael Leavitt, and his consulting group Leavitt Partners, are the primary advocates within Republican circles for implementation of Obamacare's exchanges. It just so happens that his consultancy is one of the major beneficiaries of the taxpayer funded gold mine of hundreds of millions of dollars in exchange implementation grants.

I don't find it surprising that one guy on Mitt's staff supports some aspects of Obamacare, since he probably helped him design it in Mass long ago.

Campaign tactic from the Dems ?

I agree that this, if basically accurate, is disturbing. But since Romney is apparently going to be the Republican nominee, it actually reinforces the public campaign, based upon polite & persistent efforts at public persuasion, which I have been calling for:

Romney & American Conservatism.

There is too much at stake, to just give up.

From the article: Update

News that Mitt Romney had tapped former Utah Governor and HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt to be the point man of what Politico described as a “government-in-waiting” worried at least one conservative opinion leader Sunday.

Ben Domenech, a think tank policy fellow, and co-founder of RedState.com, unleashed a torrent of Tweets, noting that Romney had “chosen as his transition leader one of the handful of Republicans who supports Obamacare’s central expansion.” (Last year, the Wall Street Journal reported that, Leavitt “strenuously backed the core piece of President Barack Obama’s health-care law and urged the states to move forward together in adopting health insurance exchanges.”)

The worry, of course, is that this selection perhaps says something about Romney’s commitment to overturning ObamaCare.

But Team Romney was quick to dismiss those worries. Reached for comment, Romney spokesman Lenny Alcivar said: “Unlike President Obama, voters can rest assured that a Romney Administration will put America back on track. That starts with repealing Obamacare, starting Day One. Make no mistake, the only person who will make policy decisions under a Romney Administration is Mitt Romney.”

Actually, the full article seems to make it pretty clear that this is a pursuit of financial interest by the individual, and does not reflect Gov. Romney's promise to repeal Obamacare, as a Federal program, in anydway.

“This is absolutely the most dispiriting presidential campaign season I’ve ever experienced in my lifetime.”

You must not been around when Bob Dole was the nominee.

OK. I understand Leavitt was Utah governor and Bush's HHS (welfare program) secretary. He's also a Mormon. Aren't there hundreds of other people Romney could have chosen who haven't made a career of sticking pins in the collective eyes of the conservative movement on the subject of health care? Also, if his Wikipedia entry is to be believed, this guy isn't exactly some kind of straight arrow.

The transition leader helps choose the political appointees filling the top positions in the Federal government. It is a critical slot. If Romney does not un-hire this guy, he may find himself watching the next inauguration on TV.

Heck, I was ten times more energized when Dole was the nominee, lame as he was! But this Romney/Obama race is like watching a Democratic Primary race from afar. A race between two Dems in which no one remotely represents my views.

I can't stand Mittens, just like I couldn't stand Juan McCain.

But you are 1000% correct.

With Romney, he at least MIGHT be persuaded to move to the right. Especially with us taking back a majority in the Senate and building our lead in the House.

Whereas with Obozo, we know what he'll do once he never has to worry about another election, and has four more years to destroy this country.

Make no mistake about it.
Freepers who vote for Romney if he is on the ballot in November are for Romney/Obamacare.

You can expect if Romney wins that every time someone dies because bureaucrats denied them treatment... I will be pinging any idiot who claimed not voting Romney was voting for Obama to those threads and pointing out their personal desponsibility for each and every death.

Well, since Romney has vowed to get rid of Obama care on day one, I’m gonna wait to react on this story until I hear more.

Well that settles it, I’m voting third party.

Yea, I know that as a practical matter voting third party is exactly the same as voting for Obama (both contribute to Obama’s reelection), but at least I can feel good about casting my vote (even if it 100% ensures ObamaCare will never be repealed) instead of casting a vote for that RINO Romney (even it it would at least gives us a fighting chance of repealing ObamaCare).

Follow your principles and vote 3rd party. Symbolism over substance forever!

You have a candidate, there is no “We”, and Romney has been pushing socialised medicine since before he was a presidential candidate - your personal laziness in not finding out who he was before today’s media stories does not change that.

Since you were too clueless to be aware it the past, you are wounding yojr own credibility when you try to come up with some notion that this is some recent smear dreamed up to attack Romney. It is not. This is one of his defining issues

If that post describes you, you will just have to live with the posts you put up being linked and quoted and you being held accountable for them.

That will not be a personal attack within the site rules, nor stalking.

If you are taking that position and using that tactic, then have the courage to stick to your convictions and accept the consequences both good and bad.

It is time to Campaign for an OPEN Convention in Tampa.

It is time to consider ONLY anti-Obama/Romney”care” Republican Dark Horses to replace Romney at the OPEN Convention in Tampa.

The main focus of the Republican Party should now be focused on DUMPING Romney.

BTW, Florida Rep. Allen West, is no longer a candidate to replace or team up with Romney, as West has stated his support of a modified Obama”care.”

It’s the GOP that isn’t on the same page as the American public. Americans by a huge margin (we’re talking over 60%) want to repeal ObamaCare.

Then you’ve got people like Sen. Sessions (from Alabama of all places) saying we shouldn’t repeal ObamaCare, but instead just need to tweak/remove the bad parts.

It’s going to take huge pressure on par with the 2009 Tea Party rallies to get these bozos to repeal ObamaCare.

Maybe just not around you, RT. No man who fought and faced death for our country can be diminished to the level of Mitt Romney who was traipsing around in France in a uniform set of magic underwear, while his contemporaries served in war.

Say whatever else you will of Dole or McCain (and I'll likely agree), but they tower above Mitt Romney. They also knew how to pick a non-dispiriting running mate! :)
