The horse racing industry should be deeply shamed that extraordinary security measures had to be ordered to guard horses in next Saturdays Belmont Stakes from the doping abuses engulfing thoroughbred racing. The horses will be kept in an isolated barn with visitors limited, feed and hay bales checked for drugs, and veterinarians and trainers under daily watch to ensure there is no manipulation of food or medication.
If anyone thinks this is an overreaction, they should take a look at the record of Doug ONeill. He is the trainer of Ill Have Another, the horse primed for the chance to be a Triple Crown champion after winning the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. Mr. ONeill has a long history of racing sanctions and penalties for administering illegal and dangerous performance-enhancing concoctions. He isnt an outlier. Of racings top 20 trainers, only two have never been cited for abusing medications.

Only 1 16 Oz soda.
Go I’ll Have Another. Get that Triple Crown!
Thanks for posting. Interesting; (ping)
I hope he wins too. They are right. Messing with horses happens as does in the dog world. Even owners will kill their horses to get the insurance money. It was really bad in the quarter horse world.
The reason horses in Europe die less often is because they’re far more likely to race on grass/turf, rather than dirt. American horses are bred for speed, not distance, which ups the odds of breaking down. European horses are far more likely to suffer tendon and ligament injuries which are less likely to end in death, but still ends their racing careers.

Why? Baseball and football players doped for decades. These sports are vastly more popular than horse racing.
I had small bets on Bodemeister in the last 2 races.
I’m going for Street Life this time.
Fingers crossed here.

What are the odds there’s more doping in horse racing than in “journalism?”
NYC's new law banning supersize sodas (is it in effect yet or has it been simply proposed?) wouldn't apply at Belmont. It's in Elmont, NY which is in Nassau County.
