Another month or two of downbeat jobs reports like Friday's, and the 2012 electoral advantage will shift to Mitt Romney. At the moment, the election is still a coin flip. But even before the latest evidence of slowing job growth, President Obama was no better than a 50-50 pick to win reelection (as noted Democratic pollster Peter Hart put it recently). And with economic storm clouds building, its easy to imagine that Obama could be the underdog before too long.
If the May report is a harbinger of what's coming, Romneys message that We can do better, but Obama can't will really resonate, said Bill Galston of the Brookings Institution, a White House advisor in the Clinton administration.
A top White House economic advisor acknowledged that more needs to be done to recover from the worst economic downturn since the Depression of the 1930s.

IF it persists?????
It has been ‘persisting’ for 3.5 years.
Even with the BLS manipulating and messaging the figures as best they can week after week, month after month, they can only keep the truth hidden for so long. It eventually surfaces.
This thing has been 60/40 for the Republicans since last year. Only the left has been blind to that. They think just now it is tipping in our favor. They are clueless about the mindset of the electorate right now, and clueless that a solid majority have been ignoring Obama and his aimless rhetoric for going on 2 years now.
It is probably about 75/25 in favor of the Republicans winning the White House as of right now...it’s not over, but it looks good. Our side just needs to keep pushing the House and Senate as far to the right as possible so they can’t sell us out next year.
Paul West must be smoking some of that special Los Angeles grown high yield weed.
We have HAD BAD NEWS for 3.5 years. What the hell difference is “one or two” more months going to make, Paul?
Someone take away his bong, he has had PLENTY.
Too soon. If the economy sinks in June and July but improves slightly in the fall, get ready for all the “Comeback Kid” leading us “back from the brink” stories.
Good to see the LA Times has a solid grasp on the obvious.
Heard somewhere today, the person leading in June has only won about 20% of the time since the 70’s.
“It has been persisting for 3.5 years.”
Exactly! Obama’s record is already in place ... nothing in the next few months can change that, good or bad.
Obama has a lousy record and should be fired.
My response as well! “If it persists??!!!” You have got to be sh**ing me?! Almost 4 years of this buffoon, with green shoots, green jobs, shovel ready jobs, porkulus, cash for clunkers, Recovery Summmer!, Solyndra, and the list of epic fails goes on and on....
Tjhe media may try to sell the Obama-economy but it wont sell... You cant polish that turd any more, even if we do start doing a bit better. This spring was supposed to be the turning point, instead, more of the same mediocrity.
Coffee with the Coffee Server is over, Hillary Romney next up.
Stating the Obvious must be a Real Downer for these Marxist Pigs,it is easily solved by these Liars in the Media though,Just Cook the Numbers,You Know, Figures dont lie But liars sure can figure.
If Obamacare is thrown out by the Supreme Court, that turn around will Benefit Obama, the economy WILL rebound with the Threat of that Monstrosity gone just in time for the Election so dont count your chickens
Analysis: If I keep hitting myself in the head with a hammer, it’s going to continue to hurt.
“..... advantage shifts to Romney” Liberals are so cute when they try to sound intelligent. Do these morons think Dumbo is on his way to victory? Who will be voting for him? Anti voter fraud laws have even taken the dead vote from him.
