As I recall, that account was set up just days before his release. PayPal usually takes several days to release funds, so he may in fact have not *really* had the actual money until after his release on bail.

On April 10th during their press conference, Zimmerman's former lawyers Hal Uhrig and Craig Sonner mentioned that therealgeorgezimmerman.com site, with a link to his paypal account, had been launched that previous weekend.
George was booked into the Seminole County Jail the next day and his bond hearing was on April 20th.
What I found odd is that during the hearing both George's wife and his father were asked about the paypal account. They both danced around the question. George was never directly questioned about it.
