Romney and Obama: The gratitude divide [Triple Barf Alert!]
American Thinker ^

Posted on 05/30/2012 8:12:42 AM PDT by greyfoxx39

One of Mitt Romney's personal traits that goes unmentioned in the Obamedia is his humility. Much like Ronald Reagan, Mitt has that "aw, shucks" kind of modesty about himself and his accomplishments that is particularly appealing when contrasted with the windy, self-congratulatory cockiness of his Democrat opponent.

Make no mistake, Mr. Romney has a lot to be proud of. His business acumen dwarfs that of the entire B.O. administration. He has a beautiful, successful family and an impeccable personal history. His missionary work and charity work and continued donations to his church and the needy are exemplary. Especially compared to someone like, oh, for instance, Joe Biden. When it comes to charitable contributions, Cement-head Joe treats nickels like they are manhole covers.

Mitt Romney, as wealthy and successful as he is, comes across to me as a good neighbor who is humbly grateful to have been born an American and to have had the opportunity to thrive and the freedom to build a great life here. Barack Obama, on the other hand, is grumbly hateful that America hasn't given him and his whiny minions that to which they have come to feel entitled. A great majority of Americans seem to be coming to this same conclusion. November can't get here soon enough.

Humility? The guy who absolutely destroyed his competition in the primaries? How humble!

It would appear that the author, Ralph Alter, is appropriately named, eh?

As nauseating as the RINO Romney worship was here, he at least trashed Obama. He may have come up with a good slogan—”Conservatism-because it’s better to be humbly grateful than grumbly hateful”

I’m not really seeing the barf here, let alone three.

Romney has serious deficiencies as a candidate, but as a President, he beats Obama.

Of course, I could throw a brick in a church (a real one, of course), and hit a better President than Obama.

Very nice. A candidate who's humble, yet tough enough to take on the competition. Sounds like this is the kind of guy we need going up against Obama.

“It’s the realization - not with pain, but with joy - that all virtues and abilities are not lodged in yourself; it’s that sudden insight that every soul in this world can be your teacher no matter how low his light burns; it’s that intake of breath when you stand before the ocean and realize how vast nature is.” [Dunn]

Actually, anyone who runs for POTUS is probably lacking in this quality to a certain degree.
But I would not qualify Mittens, with this relentless, vitriolic attacks on his primary opponents, to have one ounce of the virtue in his overly narcissistic countenance.

Rather than emphasize his positive characteristics, he felt the need to tear down his opposition with lies.
This smacks of a basic insecurity that truly humble people do not have.

A Massachusetts’ relative take? In general, folks in that uber lib state know that Romney is one nasty dude. See all the people he’s fired and the way he related to employees.

We’re in for the Rino ride of our lives with the GOP-E holding the reins for the next four to eight years, folks.
Romney will become a puppet and a representative of all that is bad about the party. The party will demand it if Mittens should win...payback and all that.

And you ABOs out there, please don’t repeat your mantra ad nauseum.

Having any candidate other than a core Conservative shoved down our throats is like a parental figure standing over us with a spoonful of cod liver oil saying “Open wide”.

Levin and Rush are the only radio talk show hosts to get this...maybe Savage, whom I don’t listen to. Mark won’t hold back with his opinions, however, while Rush will.

Ronaldo Magnus: Forgive them for they know not what we do!
Er..Actually, they(the GOP-E) do know what they are doing..and plan to carry out the long standing plan right before our eyes.

They will throw the Tea Party and all that we embrace..under the bus before the ink is dry on the Bishop’s nomination papers.

For a candidate, I would not only hope for a Conservative who embraces the principles of our founding documents but would appreciate it if the person was a CHRISTIAN, thank you very much.

The Mormon religion is totally wierd and this will come out, probably AFTER Romney occupies 1600.
The masses of them will however, be responsible for a good deal of Mitten’s vote totals and maybe his win, if he squeaks out a victory in November. Look at the primary vote totals from Mormons in states other than Utah.

Way I see it is that we Conservatives are scr**ed either way in November.

So, you're sold on Mitt's "humility"? Now I'm laughing.

I’ve never met the man, so I can’t say. I have spoken with people that I trust, who have met him and have a relationship with his family, who are sold.

I would find it hard to judge a man other than by talking with, or reading from, people who have actually had interactions. There are many stories that are well-sourced that suggest there is nothing particularly off-putting about this article (athough I would say it does seem a bit flowery).

Still, I’m hoping Romney isn’t too “humble”. Humility is good in small portions, but it is clear Romney has a strong opinion of his abilities, and that is a necessary part of being an effective business leader and executive.

I thought the author did a fine job contrasting the current Occupant with Romney, and between the two I believe Mitt’s record outshines Obamugabe’s hands down.

Romney got his money the same way the Kennedys got theirs but is less honest about it. He did not have a job till he was 31 years old. It does not take much skill to live off of dad. He claims he did not inherit his fortune, which may be true only because it was given to him before his parent died. His missionary work did not include building schools, helping orphans or any other charitable works, it was only to make converts which even he says was not very successful. He (humbly) claims his sons serve this country by campaigning for him. He helped Obama win by his staffs attacks on Palin so he could run in 4 years. How humble.

Pretty low bar for expectations there. Liberal vs. liberal.

I have spoken with people that I trust, who have met him and have a relationship with his family, who are sold.

What are the personal agendas of those you trust "and have a relationship with his family"?

Business associates? Political supporters? Campaign workers? Donors? Members of his church?

Trusting someone else's word on something as important as this seems quite naive to me.

There are many stories that are well-sourced that suggest there is nothing particularly off-putting about this article (athough I would say it does seem a bit flowery).

What is the agenda of these sources? Why are they trustworthy?

Why would one ignore the way Mitt has condemned himself with his own actions and words in order to "trust" the words of others? Have you missed all the posts on FR that quote him?
