Two senior Republican senators want to know why a group of federal judges and court employees plan to hold a convention this summer at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa, an oceanfront hotel where the website invites prospective guests to “frolic,” “pamper” and “play.”

Sens. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Jeff Sessions of Alabama said the conference for the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco could ultimately cost taxpayers more than $1 million.

Did a title search and didn't find a duplicate...sorry if this has already been posted, but I never saw it. Another story you have to wonder why you haven't seen it on the news.

BTW...the cost of the 9th Circus’s vacation in Maui is more than what was wasted at the GSA conference in Vegas.

Despite our nation suffering over $15 in debt, the extravagant spending continues.

Sarah Palin was right: it’s the politicians against the people.

Let’s see how this tremendous junket can be padded even more:
They get continuing legal education credits, and they aren’t taking vacation days because it’s “work”?
And how many non-court staff, friends and hangers-on are going along—is it as bad as an Obama vacation?
The 9th bread and circus. Meh!

There should be no “conventions” or “conferences” requiring tax payer funded travel and accomodation for govt employees PERIOD. In this day and age there is simply no need whatsoever. If that’s a deal breaker leave your f’in job because odds are your employer (we the tax payers) can do without you. If not, there will be a line at the door of folks to replace you or an “office downsized” sign on your whole department. STOP WASTING OUR MONEY YOU CORRUPT AND GREEDY BASTARDS.

I wonder....why can't the government hacks who go on these vacations be hit by the IRS for taxes on this real income???

They receive the benefit of travel, lodging, and basically paid vacation (compensation) worth sometimes 10s of thousands of dollars for which anyone else would have to pay taxes on as income.

Because the gutless worms in Congess refuse to clean out the corrupt, thieving left wing judiciary. DUH!!!

Is it too late to have a group abortion with the 9th circuit judges and personnel as the “patients of honor”??

They should have electronic conferences.

Privileges and perks enjoyed by society’s commissars paid for on the backs of the proles?

It’s been like this since Stalin, at least, and the privileged class have their resorts on the Black Sea, or, in this case, in Hawaii.

The rich and powerful tend NOT to congregate either in Siberia or in Nome, Alaska.

Since Hawaii is part of the 9th Circuit's territory, I'll bet these "retreats" are nothing new.

A little trip through the Circuit's financial history is in order, Senators.

Recommend the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota.

I once had a client who insisted on holding all his sales meetings at oceanside resorts -- Miami Beach, the Bahamas, La Jolla and the like.

Problem was, we'd spend the entire affair meeting from breakfast to midnight inside the hotel. We never whiffed the beach.

I once suggested that it would be a lot more economical to hold the meetings in a Holiday Inn in Des Moines....we could project slides of, e.g., Waikiki on the wall of the meeting room.

The Holiday Inn in Des Moines.

I've stayed there. Not a bad alternative to the Corn Palace.

Somehow, in my travels, I've managed to miss the Corn Palace.

How's the night life in Mitchell?
