(CNN) – Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney will be joined in Las Vegas next week by two of his backers: former candidate Newt Gingrich and reality television star Donald Trump.

The event will take place Tuesday at Trump's International Hotel on the Strip. Romney's campaign is also raffling a chance to have dinner with Trump for supporters who donate to the campaign.

I just did three title searches for this and came up empty, so I hope it's not a duplicate thread!!

Anyway, I'm very disappointed in The Ging for doing this. Hanging with Trump and Mittens? What the heck?

Gingrich relishes his chance to play bad cop to Romney's good cop. He likes playing attack dog. This is a good move for him and the campaign.

It's a case of using the right tool for the job.

“reality television star Donald Trump.”

Trump is a lot more than a reality TV star. He makes Romney look like a pauper.

Trump is embarrassing. Can’t we trade him to the Dems for a couple pizzas?

Palin doesn't come naturally to the role of attack dog. Her gift is to slip the knife between the third and fourth ribs with such skill that the victim doesn't feel it until she actually twists the knife. Romney can do this to some degree, so Palin is not the right tool for the job.

West could do it through sheer power of intimidation. But this job calls for an intellectual heavyweight and some subtlety.

Gingrich is the best choice for this particular role. When he lays out his case, he does it with such panache that you can't really quibble with him. He's an intellectual Rottweiler.

clowns to the left of him, jokers to the right ... he’s stuck in the middle. Hopefully Mitt has more sense than to campaign with those two - they are an embarrasement to the party

Newty and the blowfish!

Good one!

Newt's not going to be the VP candidate, so how on earth can we vote for Mittens in November?

What a disaster. At least with Obunga, we know roughly what he stands for and have a three-year trail to go on. With Mittens, Etch-a-Sketch as even his campaign said.

Can’t be true. Has to be totally invented. Newt would never, ever do this. He’s the only true conservative. Would never ever campaign with Mitt Romney. Just wouldn’t do it.

Where’s Santorum? I thought he was the one who would cave to Romney easily, who was really a liberal, a RINO, a Romneyite? Surely he’s campaigning enthusiastically with Mittens, isn’t he?

But Newt? Newt was the only true conservative. Newt would never do this. Cant be happening.

ON one hand, it’s more surprising that Trump is campaigning for Romney — I don’t think Trump ever campaigned for anyone.

I think he is doing it because he does realize that Obama IS a “clear and present danger” to the entire country, and the USA, as we know it, is not likely to survive another Obama term.

It’s time for everyone to wake up and realize this, and act accordingly.

Gingrich is doing this because it's about the Republican Party. It's not about conservatism.

The two are related, but not identical.

Unlike many here on Free Republic, Gingrich actually wants Obama to lose in November. Imagine that...
