Sounds like criminal charges need to be filed along with a civil suit to try and teach common sense to the school system and the nurse (probably impossible).
I was a high teacher for three years. One of my favorite students did not come to school one day. She die in her sleep form asthma. It was my hardest day at school. That nurse needs to be fired. Schools are very good at having many rules that never seem to get to the parents.
More examples of why America is going to Hell in a hand-basket.
My daughter was a childhood asthmatic (1980s)
Fortunately, she outgrew it.
This is one case where I would sue the H of of them.
But just wait until the Obamacare Death Panels are seated and the typical Leftist government bureaucrat, who are sadists by indoctrination, has the ultimate say on whether you live or die:
“We are sorry Ms Smith, but these forms are outdated so you will have to reapply for your heart medication.
“How long will that take?”
“ohhh, I would say six to eight months.”
“But I'm having a heart attack right now!”
“Then I suggest you fill out form 13253B and then mail it to the Emergency and Trauma Control Commission in order to receive your 911 access authorization...”
“Next!”
and yet... if this was a girl who wanted an abortion you can be sure that they would be speeding her to the nearest abortion provider without the parents consent.
Sick.
I came across a story just yesterday of a family losing their 5 YO daughter to an asthma attack.
I’m glad this young man is okay. Can’t imagine the grief of losing a child.
“A stupid person is more dangerous than a bandit.”
First thing I learned on the internet. See “Basic Laws of Human Stupidity” for scientific proof.
Floriduh
It may be the way the article is written, but it sounds like the nurse locked the student in her office when he had his asthma attack and just watched him through the window in the door. That almost sounds like depraved indifference or an attempt to murder him.
judas priest. I think a state of emergency overcomes lack of a permission slip.
a young child died here in the richmond area last year due to a school’s refusal to administer a bee sting kit for the same reason....very sad
Stupid parents....couldn’t sign the dang form? That is one thing that my wife (especially) does is go through all backpacks to ensure all paperwork is looked at and all forms signed as required. Parents are so damn lazy.
This is Volusia County they’re talking about, one of the worst in Florida, this is where former Sheriff Bob Vogel pissed on the Constitution day in and day out, by setting up roadblocks on I-95 and seizing cash from motorists who couldn’t adequately explain where the cash came from and what they intended to do with it.
As for this so-called ‘nurse’?
That beeotch needs to be fired, but of course won’t be.
First come the criminal charges.
Not really the same at all...good stretch though, keep the agenda going.
Some call them “educators.”

I believe that once again common sense is bereft at the schools. But in severe case of self-honesty I believe that the real culprit for that lack of common sense can be laid at the feet of the Trial-lawyers. Their willingness to sue on behalf of anyone regardless of the commonsensical nature of the case has lead us down this dark and dangerous path where thinking is bad and following the rules blindly is good.
One of the worst phrases in modern American culture: “There oughta be a law!”

If I were there, I'd advise the nurse to go down to the lunchroom and get a handful of lard ... then rub it all over the inhaler ... cause that would make things a lot easier for her when somebody shoves that thing up her a$$!
It’s a government school. It’s about union contracts, sick time, early retirement and medical benefits. It’s about the union employees and the work rules.
These annoying students have nothing to do with the school’s mission
Some people are more concerned with following procedure, than results. Conformity is rewarded, and no discretion is tolerated. Dull-witted people plus beauracracy, and there you go.
You’d think we have enough rules and regulations by now, wouldn’t you? We’ve reached the point where the law itself is becoming unjust. Last night there was a thread about a student who was fined $675,000 for uploading 30 songs on the Internet. Here we have a nurse who legally could have sat there and done nothing while a student died. She might have followed the law, but she was doing evil.
It’s like the Good Samaritan story in the Bible. Who was good? Was it those who would have let the traveler die rather than render aid on the Sabbath (obeying the law), or the Samaritan? The Samaritan violated the letter of the law, but he obeyed the spirit of the law.
You’re in a position to show that a school, inept enough to hire this excuse for a nurse, is so competent that it never failed to distribute, collect and maintain necessary forms ever?
Or did you forget the sarc/ tag
Forget the “school rules”...
That nurse should lose his/her license!
News Flash: Huge Governmental Bureaucratic Monopoly behaves like a Huge Governmental Bureaucratic Monopoly.
Why would anybody expect a public school employee to care about children?
The only time my children see the inside of a public school is when I take them with me when I vote!
The lawyers are only turned loose by a public hungry for revenge or money or both.
You would have to be a sadist to simply watch someone suffer an asthma attack and not help them, if you could help them. This nurse needs to do some serious soul searching.

Yes, you’re right and I believe I at least alluded to that. The problem here is that they ‘will’ take those cases even the ones that they should laugh out of the office.

Whatever you do, never let a Vogon read you poetry!
Wait for it........the kid will get expelled for having drugs in his locker.
Common sense if dead!
My daughter’s school - all medications must be turned into the school nurse. Kids with asthma are not allowed to carry their own inhalers. ALL medications must be administered by the nurse, with a release from the parents and a doctor’s authorization.
You forgot your sarcasm tag.
How was it not the same? Texas’s comment pointed out the gross hypocrisy inherent in requiring “parental consent” within the schools.
Court is a problem in itself. The focus today in court is the flow of money. First did you hire a lawyer? If not the court will punish you if did not. Second, is your lawyer connected in the inner circle of lawyers and judges? Favors by judges are handed out that way. Third, will the state get a fine? You will pay heavy fines unless you can buy an expensive lawyer and prove you did not do for whatever you are there. Then there is family court. This court is a violation of the Constitution. I watched an ex-wife lie on the papers she filed. The husband could prove it but they ignored it. Her mother admitted to stealing an AR-15 on the witness stand. She had no reason to do this. The court just ignored these crimes.
This is so important for people to comprehend. Doing what is right and compassionate is the beneficial spirit of all law.
There are too many authorities, scumbag lawyers and judges taking advantage of strict interpretation of "law" and using it for evil.
Words have meaningS.
**Have you got a 27B-6?**
That is criminal
...no parent signature needed.
This case has to be called *The Lazy Stupids Times Three*.
Surely, the parent was notified the inhaler was confiscated.
A HS student should know by now, what the rules are [stupid rules or not] and hounded the parent to get the form processed; by this age, he would know how serious his attacks could be, unless, of course, he was SpEd.
The school nurse should have been all over the parent for the form; she had to know the student’s medical history, which was probably in the file cabinet.
This idiot needs to decorate a lamppost.
Of course, you’re right. They are absolutely the same thing.
The time has long passed for all these officious boobs to be rounded up and turned out on their collective and collectivist asses.
>>Stupid parents....couldnt sign the dang form? That is one thing that my wife (especially) does is go through all backpacks to ensure all paperwork is looked at and all forms signed as required. Parents are so damn lazy.<<
What guarantee is there that a parent DID NOT sign the form and that it was misplaced. A school makes mistakes too.
Or you can homeschool.
Or register for Early College.
Either way, kid carries his own inhaler. No Nazi locker searches.
Cool.
My son's school is very clear to parents that if you child needs any med, you have to send them in with a note. It's not that hard and the school is very up front and clear about the requirements. It's the state law, not the school's policy. I'm assuming that that is probably the same case here. The parents really should have known.
My son has migraines and can't take regular tylenol, so we make sure that we send in liquid tylenol for him. Just put the bottle in a plastic baggie with a note. Not difficult.

Too bad they probably don't let kid have cellphones, or the kid could have called 911
